Primuline is a dye containing the benzothiazole ring system. The primulines are considered derivatives of dehydrothiotoluidine (aminobenzenyltoluylmercaptan). It is pale yellow in solution under visible light and is blue fluorescent under ultraviolet.
Primulin is used in retrograde double labeling procedure for studying axonal branching.
Moderately soluble in water. Soluble in methanol(1 mg/mL): yellow to yellow-green solution.
