Bacterial viability and cytotoxicity assays: Two-color fluorescence staining of both live bacteria (green) and dead bacteria (red) using two probes DMAO and EthD-III
"Bacterial viability and cytotoxicity assays: Two-color fluorescence staining of both live bacteria (green) and dead bacteria (red) using two probes DMAO and EthD-III. DMAO is a green-fluorescent nucleic acid dye which stains both live and dead bacteria with intact and damaged cell membranes. EthD-III is a red-fluorescent nucleic acid dye that only stains dead bacteria with damaged cell membranes. With an appropriate mixture of DMAO and EthD-III, bacteria with intact cell membranes stain fluorescent green, whereas bacteria with damaged cell membranes stain fluorescent red.
Live Bacterial Gram Stain Kit: Wheat germ agglutinin binds specifically to N-acetylglucosamine in the peptidoglycan layer of gram-positive bacteria. The Live Bacterial Gram Stain Kit contains wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) conjugated to CF™594 to stain the surface of gram-positive cells with red fluorescence. Includes DAPI to stain the DNA of all bacteria with blue fluorescence. Gram-positive bacteria stained using this kit will show a fluorescent blue interior and fluorescent red cell surface, while gram-negative bacteria will be stained with blue fluorescence only.
The Bacterial Viability and Gram Stain Kit contains three components: CF™488A-WGA, DAPI, and EthD-III solutions for distinguishing between gram-negative and gram-positive, as well as live versus dead bacteria. All cells stain blue with the membrane permeable DNA dye DAPI.
