Reacts with a protein of 57kDa, identified as the L1 protein of human papilloma virus type 16 (HPV-16). It is the major capsid protein of HPV-16. Infection with specific types of HPV has been associated with an increased risk of developing cervical neoplasia. HPV types 6 and 11 have been associated with relatively benign diseases such as genital warts but types 16 and 18 are strongly associated with cervical, vaginal, and vulvar malignancies. The antibody reacts very strongly with formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues containing HPV-16 or -33; very weak reactions were occasionally observed with biopsy specimens or smears containing HPV-6 or HPV-11. It cross-reacts with HPV37.

Description:
Juvenile nephronophthsis, an autosomal recessive cystic kidney disease, is the primary cause for chronic renal failure in children. The gene for nephronophthsis type 1 (NPHP1) has recently been identified. Its gene product, nephrocystin, is a novel protein of unknown function, which contains a src-homology 3 domain.NPHP1 expression has been studied in mouse and human systems. Expression in the human adult is widespread but relatively weak. In contrast, expression in adult mouse is strong and localized to the testis. In situ hybridization to whole mouse embryo demonstrates widespread and consistently strong expression throughout all developmental stages.It is hypothesized that the NPHP1 gene product, nephrocystin, is involved in signaling processes at focal adhesions (cell and extracellular matrix contact) and/or adherens junctions (cell-cell contact). The hypothesis is based on the fact that most src-homology 3 -containing proteins are part of focal adhesion signaling complexes. Additionally, nephrocystin binds to p130(cas), a prominent participant in focal adhesion signaling.

Apolipoprotein A5 (ApoA5) is fast gaining attention as a key regulator of serum triglyceride concentrations. An ApoA5 mouse knock-out model produced an approximately four fold increase in serum triglycerides, whereas a knock-in model human ApoA5 produced 50–70% lower concentrations of mouse serum triglycerides. In, additions, peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor-agonists, which are used clinically to lower serum triglyceride concentrations, cause increased ApoA5 mRNA expression. Despite these compelling molecular biology data, relatively little is known about ApoA5 protein in human serum. Recently, it was demonstrated that ApoA5 is the present in the human serum detected by polyclonal antibodies against both the HN2 and COOH termini, although at much lower concentration than other apolipoproteins.

Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. They have an estimated 75% protein to rRNA composition compared to prokaryotic ribosomes, where this ratio is reversed. Another difference between mammalian mitoribosomes and prokaryotic ribosomes is that the latter contain a 5S rRNA. Among different species, the proteins comprising the mitoribosome differ greatly in sequence, and sometimes in biochemical properties, which prevents easy recognition by sequence homology. This gene encodes a 39S subunit protein. Two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described. A pseudogene corresponding to this gene is found on chromosome 5q.

Lupus La protein (Sjogren syndrome type B antigen) (SS-B) (La ribonucleoprotein) (La autoantigen) plays a role in the transcription of RNA polymerase III. It is most probably a transcription termination factor. Binds to the 3' termini of virtually all nascent polymerase III transcripts. It is associated with precursor forms of RNA polymerase III transcripts including tRNA and 4.5S, 5S, 7S, and 7-2 RNAs. The phosphorylation sites are at the C-terminal part of the protein. Sera from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) often contain that react with the normal cellular La protein as if this antigen was foreign.

This antibody recognizes a protein of 130-140 kDa, identified as CD22 (also known as BL-CAM). CD22 expression is restricted to normal and neoplastic B cells and is absent from other haemopoietic cell types. In B-cell ontogeny, CD22 is first expressed in the cytoplasm of pro-B and pre-B cells, and on the surface as B cells mature to become IgD . It is not expressed by plasma cells, CD22 is found highly expressed in follicular mantle and marginal zone B-cells, and while germinal center B-cells are relatively weak. CD22 is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and serves as an adhesion receptor for sialic acid-bearing ligands expressed on erythrocytes and all leukocyte classes. It also associates with tyrosine kinases and play a role in signal transduction and B-cell activation.
