Ca2+-indicator fluo-3 for use with visible-light excitation sources in flow cytometry and confocal laser-scanning microscopy. Since about 1996, fluo-3 has also been extensively used in cell-based high-throughput screening assays for drug discovery. Fluo-3 AM is essentially nonfluorescent until it is hydrolyzed intracellularly and/or in the presence of Ca2+. The green-fluorescent emission (~525 nm) of Ca2+-bound fluo-3 is conventionally detected using optical filter sets designed for fluorescein (FITC). As prepared by Minta, Kao and Tsien, fluo-3 was originally reported to undergo an ~40-fold increase in fluorescence upon binding Ca2+.

The RING-type zinc finger motif is present in a number of viral and eukaryotic proteins and is made of a conserved cysteine-rich domain that is able to bind two zinc atoms. Proteins that contain this conserved domain are generally involved in the ubiquitination pathway of protein degradation. RNF215 (ring finger protein 215), is a 377 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein containing one RING-type zinc finger. The gene encoding RNF215 maps to human chromosome 22, which houses over 500 genes and is the second smallest human chromosome. Mutations in several of the genes that map to chromosome 22 are involved in the development of Phelan-McDermid syndrome, Neurofibromatosis type 2, autism and schizophrenia.

Like the genes encoding MAGE proteins, BAGE genes are most likely silenced by DNA methylation and/or chromatin compaction in normal tissues other than testis.

Leptin receptor (OB-R) is a type I cytokine receptor family protein with significant amino acid sequence identity with gp130, G-CSF receptor, and LIF receptor. An OB-R transcript encodes a soluble form of the receptor.
