Cell cycle progression is subject to arrest at G1 and G2 checkpoints in response to DNA damage, presumably to allow time for DNA repair prior to entry into S and M phase, respectively. The p53 tumor suppressor is required for one such G1 checkpoint and functions to upregulate expression of GADD 45 and the mitotic inhibitory protein p21. GADD 45 stimulates DNA excision repair in vitro and inhibits entry of cells into S phase, and it apparently acts in concert with GADD 153 in inducing growth arrest. A related DNA-damage inducible gene, GADD 34 synergizes with GADD 45 or GADD 153 in suppressing cell growth. PEG-3 (progression elevated gene-3) shares significant homology with GADD 34 and is inducible by DNA damage. An additional GADD related gene, PA26, is a possible target of p53. Three isoforms of PA26 have been identified as PA26-T1, PA26-T2 and PA26-T3.

Made from Acetal Polymer. These biopsy cassettes can hold up to six tissue specimens, each one placed in it’s own compartment, numbered from 1 to 6 and measuring 7 x 12 x 5 mm (1/4 x 7/16 x 3/16"). Cover and base have over 3000 0.36 mm square openings. Cassettes keep specimen safely submerged in solvent and are totally resistant to the most histological solvents. The efficient flow-through slots maximize fluid exchange and insure proper drainage. The one-piece integral lid eliminates the need for separate steel lids. Large labeling areas are located on three sides of the cassette. The anterior writing area is at a 45° angle, making the cassette, to some degree, able to be used with certain types of cassette labeling instruments. Each case contains 4 dispenser boxes of 250 cassettes with covers assembled.

CD48 is strongly expressed on lymphocytes and monocytes and weakly on granulocytes but is absent on platelets, fibroblasts, epithelium and endothelium. CD48 is one of marker for detecting the defects of GPI anchoring structure on the patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobulinuria (PNH) and serves as a low affinity ligand for CD2.

One example is a study of valinomycin induced changes in membrane potentials of red blood cell and phospholipid (phosphatidylcholine from egg yolk plus cholesterol) vesicle suspensions.
