Dimethyl sulphoxide
Dimethyl sulfoxide is a dipolar, aprotic solvent. Has been shown to accelerate strand renaturation (1-10% concentration) and is believed to give the nucleic acid thermal stability against depurination.

As a cryopreservative for cell cultures.Used in the oxidation of thiols and disulfides to sulfonic acids.Used as a PCR cosolvent to help improve yields, especially in long PCR.
