The members of the murine Cdx family (Cdx1, Cdx2, and Cdx4) are members of the caudal-type homeobox family of genes, which are homologues of the Drosophila ‘caudal’ gene required for anterior-posterior regional identity. The intestine-specific transcription factors Cdx1 and Cdx2 are candidate genes for directing intestinal development, differentiation, proliferation and maintenance of the intestinal phenotype. The relative expression of Cdx1 to Cdx2 protein may be important in the anterior to posterior patterning of the intestinal epithelium and in defining patterns of proliferation and differentiation along the crypt-villus axis. Expression of the Cdx1 homeobox gene in epithelial intestinal cells promotes cellular growth and differentiation. Cdx1 positively regulates its own expression. Cdx1 and Cdx2 are expressed in the small intestine and colon of fetus and adult. A decrease in human Cdx1 and/or Cdx2 expression is associated with colorectal tumorigenesis. Both Cdx1 and Cdx2 genes must be expressed to reduce tumorigenic potential, to increase sensitivity to apoptosis and to reduce cell migration, suggesting that the two genes control the normal phenotype by independent pathways. The human Cdx1 gene maps to chromosome 5q31-q33 and encodes a 265-amino acid protein.

It is most probably a transcription termination factor. Binds to the 3' termini of virtually all nascent polymerase III transcripts. It is associated with precursor forms of RNA polymerase III transcripts including tRNA and 4.5S, 5S, 7S, and 7-2 RNAs. The phosphorylation sites are at the C-terminal part of the protein. Sera from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) often contain that react with the normal cellular La protein as if this antigen was foreign.

Major Facilitator Superfamily (MFS) members are capable of transporting various substrates such as sugars, polyols, drugs, neurotransmitters, amino acids, peptides, and inorganic anions, although most members are substrate-specific. MFSD2B is closely related to MFSD2A, which is expressed in many tissues and is highly induced in liver and brown adipose tissue (BAT) during fasting, playing a major role in the induction of MFSD2A expression during adaptive thermogenesis. Unlike MFSD2A, MFSD2B is expressed in few tissues and at relatively low levels, and is not induced during fasting, suggesting that MFSD2B may play other roles.

Guanosine is a purine nucleoside comprising guanine attached to a ribose (ribofuranose) ring via a β-N9-glycosidic bond. Guanosine can be phosphorylated to become guanosine monophosphate (GMP), cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), guanosine diphosphate (GDP), and guanosine triphosphate (GTP). These forms play important roles in various biochemical processes such as synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins, photosynthesis, muscle contraction and intracellular signal transduction (cGMP). When guanine is attached by its N9 nitrogen to the C1 carbon of adeoxyribose ring it is known as deoxyguanosine.
Guanosine is required for an RNA splicing reaction in mRNA, when a "self-splicing" intron removes itself from the mRNA message by cutting at both ends, re-ligating, and leaving just the exons on either side to be translated into protein. The antiviral drug aciclovir, often used in herpes treatment, is structurally similar to guanosine.

DYX2 is a 1072 amino acid single-pass transmembrane protein that contains one MANSC domain and two PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) domains, which are usually found in the extracellular regions of proteins and are involved in protein-protein interactions. In DYX2, it is likely that its PKD domains mediate the interaction between neurons and glial fibers during neuronal migration. When overexpressed, this plasma membrane protein colocalizes with EEA1 (early endosome antigen 1) in large intracellular vesicles, suggesting that it is endocytosed and recycled. DYX2 is highly expressed in brain cortex, cerebellum, amygdala, putamen and hippocampus. Defects in the gene encoding DYX2 may be the cause of dyslexia type 2, a relatively common disorder that is characterized by reading performance impairment in the absence of sensory or neurologic disability. Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and help in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. They have an estimated 75% protein to rRNA composition compared to prokaryotic ribosomes, where this ratio is reversed. Another difference between mammalian mitoribosomes and prokaryotic ribosomes is that the latter contain a 5S rRNA. Among different species, the proteins comprising the mitoribosome differ greatly in sequence, and sometimes in biochemical properties, which prevents easy recognition by sequence homology. This gene encodes a 39S subunit protein. Sequence analysis identified three transcript variants that encode different isoforms. This gene encodes a 105 kD protein which can undergo cotranslational processing by the 26S proteasome to produce a 50 kD protein. The 105 kD protein is a Rel protein-specific transcription inhibitor and the 50 kD protein is a DNA binding subunit of the NF-kappa-B (NFKB) protein complex. NFKB is a transcription regulator that is activated by various intra- and extra-cellular stimuli such as cytokines, oxidant-free radicals, ultraviolet irradiation, and bacterial or viral products. Activated NFKB translocates into the nucleus and stimulates the expression of genes involved in a wide variety of biological functions. Inappropriate activation of NFKB has been associated with a number of inflammatory diseases while persistent inhibition of NFKB leads to inappropriate immune cell development or delayed cell growth. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
