Description:
The Androgen receptor gene is more than 90 kb long and codes for a protein that has 3 major functional domains: the N-terminal domain, DNA-binding domain, and androgen-binding domain. The protein functions as a steroid-hormone activated transcription factor. Upon binding the hormone ligand, the receptor dissociates from accessory proteins, translocates into the nucleus, dimerizes, and then stimulates transcription of androgen responsive genes. This gene contains 2 polymorphic trinucleotide repeat segments that encode polyglutamine and polyglycine tracts in the N-terminal transactivation domain of its protein. [RefSeq]

Description:
Bmf (Bcl-2-modifying factor) belongs to the Bcl-2 protein family. Bcl-2 family members form hetero- or homo-dimers and act as anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators that are involved in a wide variety of cellular activities. Bmf contains a single Bcl-2 homology domain 3 (BH3), and has been shown to interact with other Bcl-2 proteins and functions as an apoptotic activator. Two different start sites can give rise to two proteins of 25 or 30 kDa. It is found to be sequestered to myosin V motors by its association with dynein light chain 2 (DLC2), which may be important for sensing intracellular damage and triggering apoptosis.

Description:
Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is an antioxidant enzyme involved in the defense system against reactive oxygen species (ROS). SOD catalyzes the dismutation reaction of superoxide radical anion (O2-) to hydrogen peroxide, which is then catalyzed to innocuous O2 and H2O by glutathione peroxidase and catalase. Several classes of SOD have been identified. These include intracellular copper, zinc SOD (Cu, Zn-SOD/SOD-1), mitochondrial manganese SOD (Mn-SOD/SOD-2) and extracellular Cu, Zn-SOD (EC-SOD/SOD-3). SOD1 is found in all eukaryotic species as a homodimeric 32 kDa enzyme containing one each of Cu and Zn ion per subunit. The manganese containing 80 kDa tetrameric enzyme SOD2, is located in the mitochondrial matrix in close proximity to a primary endogenous source of superoxide, the mitochondrial respiratory chain. SOD3 is a heparin-binding multimer of disulfide-linked dimers, primarily expressed in human lungs, vessel walls and airways. SOD4 is a copper chaperone for superoxide dismutase (CCS), which specifically delivers Cu to copper/zinc superoxide dismutase. CCS may activate copper/zinc superoxide dismutase through direct insertion of the Cu cofactor.

Description:
DNA polymerase lambda (pol lambda), also designated DNA polymerase lambda or Pol Beta2, is a low-fidelity polymerase which plays a role in both spontaneous and DNA damage-induced mutagenesis. Encoded by the POLL gene, pol lambda is a member of the DNA polymerase type-X family. Pol lambda extends primer-terminal mispairs opposite nondamaged DNA templates, suggesting that it may assist in extending mismatched base pairs during normal DNA replication. In addition, pol ?may play a role in the mutagenic bypass of T-T dimers. Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), a protein essential to DNA replication, interacts with pol lambda and thus influences the ability of pol ?to synthesize DNA.

Description:
Tubulin family members are globular proteins important in the assembly of microtubules. Microtubules are structural components that play important roles in mitosis, cytokinesis and vesicle transport. TPPP (Tubulin polymerization-promoting protein), also known as p24 and p25, is a widely expressed 219 amino acid protein found in the perinuclear region of the cytoplasm. TPPP may form dimers and functions in polymerizing tubulin into double-walled tubules, polymorphic aggregates, or stabilized blocks. TPPP overexpression prevents formation of the mitotic spindle assembly and breakdown of the nuclear envelope. TPPP is phosphorylated by TPK II and is encoded by a gene that maps to human chromosome 5, which contains 181 million base pairs and comprises nearly 6% of the human genome.

Description:
This MAb recognizes TGF beta 1, 2 and 3. Three TGF betas have been identified in mammals. TGF beta 1, TGF beta 2 and TGF beta 3 are each synthesized as precursor proteins that are very similar in that each is cleaved to yield a 112 amino acid polypeptide that remains associated with the latent portion of the molecules. Biologically active TGF beta requires dimerization of the monomers (usually homodimers) and release of the latent peptide portion. Overall, the mature region of the TGF beta 3 protein has approximately 80% identity to the mature region of both TGF beta 1 and TGF beta 2. However, the NH2 terminals or precursor regions of their molecules share only 27% sequence identity. TGF betas inhibit the growth of epithelial cells and stimulate the growth of mesenchymal cells.
CF® dyes are Biotium's next-generation fluorescent dyes. CF®568 is a red fluorescent dye (Ex/Em 562/583 nm) with superior brightness and photostability. It also is compatible with super-resolution imaging by STORM and TIRF.

Description:
This antibody recognizes an oncofetal glycoprotein with a single chain of 70 kDa, which is identified as alpha fetoprotein (AFP). This MAb is highly specific to AFP and shows no cross-reaction with other oncofetal antigens or serum albumin. The yolk sac and the liver produce AFP during fetal life. AFP expression in adults is often associated with hepatoma or teratoma. However, hereditary persistence of alpha-fetoprotein may also be found in individuals with no obvious pathology. The protein is thought to be the fetal counterpart of serum albumin, and the AFP and albumin genes are present in tandem in the same transcriptional orientation on chromosome 4. AFP is found in monomeric as well as dimeric and trimeric forms, and binds copper, nickel, fatty acids and bilirubin. The level of AFP in amniotic fluid is used to measure renal loss of protein to screen for spinal bifida and anencephaly.
CF® dyes are Biotium's next-generation fluorescent dyes. CF®640R is a far-red fluorescent dye (Ex/Em 642/662 nm) with excellent brightness, and the best photostabiity among spectrally-similar dyes.

Description:
Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have a wide variety of functions, most of which encompass some form of transcriptional activation or repression. The majority of zinc-finger proteins contain a Krüppel-type DNA binding domain and a KRAB domain, which is thought to interact with KAP1, thereby recruiting histone modifying proteins. Zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 5 (ZBTB5) is a 677 amino acid member of the Krüppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family. Localized to the nucleus, ZBTB5 contains a BTB domain, also known as a POZ domain, which inhibits DNA binding and mediates homotypic and heterotypic dimerization. Characteristics of the BTB domain suggest that ZBTB5 functions as a transcription regulator.

Description:
TREX2 is one of two major human 3' to 5' exonucleases which are required for checkpoint signaling after DNA damage. While the related protein TREX1 is required for ATR expression and mutations in this gene result in Aicardi-Goutieres syndrome, chilblain lupus, and Cree encephalitis, less is known about TREX2. Like TREX1, TREX2 is ubiquitously expressed in all tissues examined. X-ray crystallography studies of TREX2-single strand DNA complexes revealed that TREX2 binds DNA as a dimer and may act to displace the second DNA strand, suggesting that TREX2 unzips and denatures double stranded DNA and feed the substrate DNA strand into the TREX2 active site. At least two isoforms of TREX2 are known to exist.
