Description:
Murine CD38, a type II transmembrane glycoprotein, is a bifunctional ectoenzyme capable of catabolizing nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) to cyclic ADP-ribose (cADPR) and then hydrolyzing cADPR to adenosine diphosphoribose (ADPR). It is expressed at high levels on the surface of peripheral B-lineage cells and at low density on germinal center B cells from unimmunized mice. It has also been reported to be expressed at moderate levels on NK cells, a proportion of peripheral T cells, and a subpopulation of thymocytes which are mostly TCRαβ+, CD4-, CD8-. Murine CD38 is also expressed by all Mac-1+ macrophages in the peritoneal cavities of unimmunized mice, but not by unstimulated bone-marrow-derived macrophages. Monoclonal antibodies to CD38 have been shown to induce B and T cell proliferation, protect B cells from apoptosis, and inhibit B lymphopoiesis.

Description:
Equilibrative nucleoside transporters (ENTs) regulate many physiological processes and are widely distributed in mammals, plants, yeasts, insects, nematodes and protozoans. They enable facilitated diffusion of hydrophilic nucleosides, such as adenosine and nucleoside analogs, across cell membranes. ENTs are required for uptake of antiviral and anticancer nucleoside drugs and influence a variety of physiological processes, such as neurotransmission and platelet aggregation, by regulating the amount of adenoside available to cell surface receptors. Equilibrative nucleoside transporter 1 (ENT1), also designated solute carrier family 29 (nucleoside transporters), member 1, belongs to the SLC29A transporter family and is a mammalian ENT isoform. ENT1, along with ENT3, mediates the majority of influx and efflux of nucleosides across the plasma membrane.

Description:
Histidine triad nucleotide-binding protein 1 (HINT1) is a member of the histidine triad (HIT) protein family, a group of small nucleotide-binding and -hydrolyzing proteins. HINT1 interacts with several diverse proteins and has been suggested to have tumor suppressive activities. HINT1 catalyzes the hydrolysis of adenosine 5'-monophoramidate substrates such as AMP-morpholidate, but its enzymatic function does not appear to play a role in its tumor suppression. Recent experiments demonstrate that HINT1 forms a complex with POSH and JNK in vivo, inhibiting AP-1 activity and the phosphorylation of c-Jun, and this action could contribute to the tumor suppressor activity of HINT1. Other studies raise the possibility of HINT1 as a candidate gene for schizophrenia.

Description:
Myosin is a 480 kD protein that interacts with actin in muscle and non muscle cells (8). Conventional myosin contains two identical heavy chains (MHC - 200kD each) and four light chains (MLC-15-26 kD). Conventional myosin molecules consist of two major regions: tail (rod) and globular heads; they aggregate into filaments through the tail region and interact with actin and with adenosine triphosphate (ATP) through the head region. Multiple forms of myosin heavy chains exist in skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscle and in non- muscle tissues. A spectrum of skeletal muscle fiber types is found in adult skeletal muscles. The two major skeletal muscle fiber types are type I (slow- twitch) and type II (fast-twitch). Skeletal muscle type II fibers can be further subdivided into types IIa (fast red) and IIb (fast white).
