Description:
Fascin is a highly conserved actin-bundling protein. Fascin, encoded by the human homolog for sn (hsn) gene, has been localized to microspikes and stress fibers of cultured cells where it is thought to be involved in the formation of microfilament bundles. It is expressed predominantly in dendritic cells. Lymphoid cells, myeloid cells and plasma cells are negative. However, Reed Sternberg cells in Hodgkin’s lymphoma are positive for fascin staining. Epstein-Barr virus may induce expression of fascin in B cells.

Description:
Receptor for the Fc region of complexed or aggregated immunoglobulins gamma. Low affinity receptor. Involved in a variety of effector and regulatory functions such as phagocytosis of immune complexes and modulation of antibody production by B-cells. Binding to this receptor results in down-modulation of previous state of cell activation triggered via antigen receptors on B-cells (BCR), T-cells (TCR) or via another Fc receptor. Isoform IIB1 fails to mediate endocytosis or phagocytosis. Isoform IIB2 does not trigger phagocytosis.

Description:
UROD is the fifth enzyme of the heme biosynthetic pathway. This enzyme is responsible for catalyzing the conversion of uroporphyrinogen to coproporphyrinogen through the removal of four carboxymethyl side chains. Mutations and deficiency in this enzyme are known to cause familial porphyria cutanea tarda and hepatoerythropoetic porphyria. Porphyria cutanea tarda is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by light-sensitive dermatitis and associated with the excretion of large amounts of uroporphyrin in urine. Hepatoerythropoetic porphyria is a form of porphyria cutanae tarda that may also be a manifestation of benign or malignant hepatic tumors.

Description:
Promotes microtubule assembly and stability, and might be involved in the establishment and maintenance of neuronal polarity. The C-terminus binds axonal microtubules while the N-terminus binds neural plasma membrane components, suggesting that tau functions as a linker protein between both. Axonal polarity is predetermined by TAU/MAPT localization (in the neuronal cell) in the domain of the cell body defined by the centrosome. The short isoforms allow plasticity of the cytoskeleton whereas the longer isoforms may preferentially play a role in its stabilization.

Description:
E2-like enzyme involved in autophagy and mitochondrial homeostasis. Catalyzes the conjugation of ATG8-like proteins (GABARAP, GABARAPL1, GABARAPL2 or MAP1LC3A) to phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). PE-conjugation to ATG8-like proteins is essential for autophagy. Preferred substrate is MAP1LC3A. Also acts as an autocatalytic E2-like enzyme, catalyzing the conjugation of ATG12 to itself, ATG12 conjugation to ATG3 playing a role in mitochondrial homeostasis but not in autophagy. ATG7 (E1-like enzyme) facilitates this reaction by forming an E1-E2 complex with ATG3.

Description:
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the S100family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs.S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of awide range of cells, and involved in the regulation of a number ofcellular processes such as cell cycle progression anddifferentiation. S100 genes include at least 13 members which arelocated as a cluster on chromosome 1q21. This protein may have atumor suppressor function. Chromosomal rearrangements and alteredexpression of this gene have been implicated in breast cancer.
