Description:
GBGT1 is a 347 amino acid single-pass type II membrane protein that belongs to the glycosyltransferase 6 family. Localizing to the golgi apparatus membrane, GBGT1 is widely expressed, with high levels found in placenta, ovary and peripheral blood leukocyte, and lower levels expressed in liver, thymus and testis. GBGT1 utilizes manganese as a cofactor, and assists in the addition of N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) in alpha-1,3-linkage to various substrates, resulting in the formation of glycolipids. Glycolipids are present in most eukaryotic cells and may assist in the adherence of certain pathogens. Existing as two alternatively spliced isoforms, the gene encoding GBGT1 maps to human chromosome 9q34.2 and mouse chromosome 2 A3.

Description:
RNA-binding factor that may recruits target transcripts to cytoplasmic protein-RNA complexes (mRNPs). This transcript 'caging' into mRNPs allows mRNA transport and transient storage. It also modulates the rate and location at which target transcripts encounter the translational apparatus and shields them from endonuclease attacks or microRNA-mediated degradation. Binds to the 3'-UTR of CD44 mRNA and stabilizes it, hence promotes cell adhesion and invadopodia formation in cancer cells. Binds to beta-actin/ACTB and MYC transcripts. Binds to the 5'-UTR of the insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) mRNAs.

Description:
The SensoLyte® Plus 520 MMP-2 Assay Kit is designed specifically for detecting MMP-2 activity in biological samples, such as culture medium, serum, plasma, synovial fluid, and tissue homogenate, which may contain multiple MMPs. A monoclonal anti-human-MMP-2 antibody is employed to pull down MMP-2 from the mixture first. MMP-2 activity is then quantified by a 5-FAM/QXL® 520 fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) peptide. The fluorescence signal is monitored at Ex/Em=490 nm/520 nm upon MMP-2-induced cleavage of the FRET substrate. The long wavelength fluorescence of 5-FAM is less interfered by the autofluorescence of components in biological samples and test compounds. Ample materials are provided to perform 96 assays in a 96-well format.

Chicken Ovalbumin is the major protein in the "white" of the egg (and a favorite antigen in immunological research). Egg white contains a variety of proteins including ovalbumin, conalbumin, ovomucoid and lysozyme. It belongs to the serpin family and the Ov serpin subfamily. Ovalbumin can cause an allergic reaction in humans.Ovalbumin has been implicated in the development of the egg shell. Immunohistochemistry revealed that ovalbumin is found only in the mammillary bodies of decalcified shell, and is not distributed throughout the shell matrix. These results indicate that ovalbumin is present during the initial phase of shell formation and becomes incorporated into the protein matrix of the mammillary bodies. However, it is not yet clear whether ovalbumin at this site plays a specific role in shell mineralisation.

Description:
This gene belongs to the cytokine gene family which encode secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The protein encoded by this gene is structurally related to the CXC (Cys-X-Cys) subfamily of cytokines. Members of this subfamily are characterized by two cysteines separated by a single amino acid. This cytokine displays chemotactic activity for monocytes but not for lymphocytes, dendritic cells, neutrophils or macrophages. It has been implicated that this cytokine is involved in the homeostasis of monocyte-derived macrophages rather than in inflammation. [FUNCTION] Potent chemoattractant for neutrophils, and weaker for dendritic cells. Not chemotactic for T-cells, B-cells, monocytes, natural killer cells or granulocytes. Does not inhibit proliferation of myeloid progenitors in colony formation assays.

Description:
GALA is a 30 amino acid synthetic peptide with a glutamic acid-alanine-leucine-alanine (EALA) repeat. It also contains a histidine and tryptophan residue as spectroscopic probes. This peptide was designed to explore how viral fusion protein sequences interact with membranes. It was used to study the importance of the helix length, hydrophobicity, and hydrophobic moment on the formation, structure, and function of ion channels. The membrane-interacting properties of GALA have been extensively documented. Investigations with analogs of cytotoxic peptides clarify the importance of peptide charge and the role of particular amino acids or arrays of amino acids in the conformation, membrane-binding affinity, and pore-forming abilities of these toxins.

Description:
The protein encoded by this gene is the fifth component of complement, which plays an important role in inflammatory and cell killing processes. This protein is comprised of alpha and beta polypeptide chains that are linked by a disulfide bridge. An activation peptide, C5a, which is an anaphylatoxin that possesses potent spasmogenic and chemotactic activity, is derived from the alpha polypeptide via cleavage with a convertase. The C5b macromolecular cleavage product can form a complex with the C6 complement component, and this complex is the basis for formation of the membrane attack complex, which includes additional complement components. Mutations in this gene cause complement component 5 deficiency, a disease where patients show a propensity for severe recurrent infections. Defects in this gene have also been linked to a susceptibility to liver fibrosis and to rheumatoid arthritis. (provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008).

Nrarp (NOTCH-regulated ankyrin repeat protein) is a 114 amino acid protein that contains two ANK repeats and is thought to play a role in the formation of somites. The gene encoding Nrarp maps to human chromosome 9, which contains 145 million base pairs and comprises 4% of the human genome, encoding nearly 900 genes. Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia and Familial dysautonomia are both associated with chromosome 9. Notably, chromosome 9 encompasses the largest interferon family gene cluster. Chromosome 9 is partnered with chromosome 22 in translocations that lead to the aberrant production of a BCR-ABL fusion protein often found in leukemias.

LSAMP is a neuronal surface glycoprotein found in cortical and subcortical regions of the limbic system expressed on the surface of somata and proximal dendrites of neurons. It is a member of the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily and belongs to the IgLON subfamily of cell adhesion molecules. LSAMP contains three Ig domains and a glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor. It is a highly conserved protein between rodents and humans (99% sequence identity) and it is involved in the regulation of neurite outgrowth and mediation of proper circuit formation of limbic pathways. This suggests that LSAMP plays an important role in the development and function of the limbic system. In addition, LSAMP may function as a tumor suppressor in renal carcinomas.

Description:
Junctional complexes between the plasma membrane (PM) and endoplasmic/sarcoplasmic reticulum (ER/SR) are a common feature of all excitable cell types and mediate cross talk between cell surface and intracellular ion channels. Junctophilins (JPs) are important components of the junctional complexes. JPs are composed of a carboxy-terminal hydrophobic segment spanning the ER/SR membrane and a remaining cytoplasmic domain that shows specific affinity for the PM. Four JPs have been identified as tissue-specific subtypes derived from different genes: JPH1 is expressed in skeletal muscle, JPH2 is detected throughout all muscle cell types, and JPH3 and JPH4 are predominantly expressed in the brain. In the CNS, both JPH3 and JPH4 are expressed throughout neural sites and contribute to the subsurface cistern formation in neurons. Mice lacking both JPH3 and JPH4 subtypes exhibit serious symptoms such as impaired learning and memory and are accompanied by abnormal nervous functions. A repeat expansion in JPH3 is associated with Huntington disease-like 2. At least two isoforms of JPH3 are known to exist.

Rab17 belongs to the Rab family of small Ras-like GTPases. It is specifically expressed in epithelial cells and is upregulated during cell polarization. Immunofluorescence staining studies indicate that Rab17 is associated with the perinuclear recycling endosome in nonpolarized epithelial cells and with the apical recycling endosome in polarized epithelial cells. The function of Rab17 remains unclear. Reports of Rab17 colocalization with internalized IgA in the apical endosome suggest that it may regulate receptor-mediated transcytosis. Rab17 has also been shown to regulate melanocytic filopodia formation and melanosome trafficking. siRNA knockdown of Rab17 in melanoma cells induces melanosome accumulation in the cell periphery.
