Description:
ODF3B, also known as ODF3L3 (outer dense fiber protein 3-like protein 3), is a 253 amino acid protein belonging to the ODF3 family. Existing as two isoforms produced by alternative splicing, ODF3B contains one DUF1309 repeat. The gene that encodes ODF3B maps to human chromosome 22, which contains over 500 genes and about 49 million bases. Being the second smallest human chromosome, 22 contains a surprising variety of interesting genes. Phelan-McDermid syndrome, Neurofibromatosis type 2 and autism are associated with chromosome 22. A schizophrenia susceptibility locus has been identified on chromosome 22 and studies show that 22q11 deletion symptoms include a high incidence of schizophrenia. Translocations between chromosomes 9 and 22 may lead to the formation of the Philadelphia Chromosome and the subsequent production of the novel fusion protein, BCR-Abl, a potent cell proliferation activator found in several types of leukemia.

Description:
C22orf36 is a 315 amino acid protein that contains two LRR (leucine-rich) repeats and exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms. C22orf36 is encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 22, which contains over 500 genes and about 49 million bases. As the second smallest human chromosome, chromosome 22 contains a wide variety of genes with numerous functions. Phelan-McDermid syndrome, Neurofibromatosis type 2 and autism are associated with chromosome 22. A schizophrenia susceptibility locus has been identified on chromosome 22 and studies show that 22q11 deletion symptoms include a high incidence of schizophrenia. FTSJ1 is a 329 amino acid nucleolar protein belonging to the RlmE family and methyltransferase superfamily. Expressed in adult thalamus, hippocampus, amygdala, corpus callosum and caudate nucleus, as well as fetal kidney, lung, liver, brain and lung, FTSJ1 plays a role in rRNA modification and processing. FTSJ1 exists as multiple spliced isoforms which are encoded by a gene located on human chromosome Xp11.23. Notably, defects in the gene encoding FTSJ1 are the cause of mental retardation X-linked type 44 (MRX44) and nonsyndromic X-linked mental retardation (MRX9).

ANKRD54 is a 300 amino acid protein that contains four ankyrin repeats and is expressed as two alternatively spliced isoforms. The gene encoding human ANKRD54 maps to chromosome 22, which houses over 500 genes and is the second smallest human chromosome. Mutations in several of the genes that map to chromosome 22 are involved in the development of Phelan-McDermid syndrome, neurofibromatosis type 2, autism and schizophrenia. Additionally, translocations between chromosomes 9 and 22 may lead to the formation of the Philadelphia chromosome and the subsequent production of the novel fusion protein BCR-Abl, a potent cell proliferation activator found in several types of leukemias.

TMEM184B, also known as C22orf5, is a 407 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein and represents a novel gene in the activation of the MAPK signaling pathway. The gene encoding TMEM184B maps to human chromosome 22; mutations in several of the genes in chromosome 22 are involved in the development of autism, schizophrenia, Phelan-McDermid syndrome and Neurofibromatosis type 2, suggesting that TMEM184B may play a role in these syndromes.
