Description:   ILVBL is a 632 amino acid single-pass membrane protein that belongs to the TPP enzyme family. Expressed in the majority of tissues, ILVBL has the highest level of expression in heart, pancreas and placenta. ILVBL is highly homologous to several bacterial enzymes, including the B isozyme of the large catalytic subunit of E. coli acetohydroxy-acid synthase (AHAS) and the oxalyl-coA decarboxylase of O. formigenes, that utilize thiamine pyrophosphate as a cofactor. ILVBL binds one magnesium ion and one thiamine pyrophosphate per subunit, and may catalyze the initial step in branched-chain amino acid biosynthesis. The gene encoding ILVBL maps to human chromosome 19p13.12 and mouse chromosome 10 C1.

Description:   The regulation of the intracellular concentration of calcium is important for proper maintenance of voltage-gated ion channels which control muscle and nerve function. Calcium homeostasis is regulated by a variety of proteins. CHERP (calcium homeostasis endoplasmic reticulum protein), also known as SRA1, DAN16 or SCAF6, is a 916 amino acid protein that localizes to the cytoplasm and the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Expressed in pancreas, brain, lung, placenta, liver, kidney, heart and skeletal muscle, CHERP is involved in maintaining calcium homeostasis and plays a role in cell growth and proliferation. CHERP contains one G-patch domain, one RPR domain and one SURP motif and is expressed as two isoforms due to alternative splicing events.

Description:   Corticotropin (ACTH), synthesized by the anterior pituitary gland, stimulates the adrenal cortex. Human ACTH has a molecular weight of 4,541 and contains 39 amino acids . It has structural similarities to melanotropin (melanocyte-stimulating hormone; MSH). Human beta-melanotropin has 22 amino acid residues and a molecular weight of 2,661. Work on the structure of the ACTH gene by restriction enzyme techniques showed that 6 hormones are derived from one gene: ACTH, lipotropin, alpha-MSH, beta-MSH, endorphin, and one other. Thus, extensive amino acid differences between these hormones were not adequate evidence for their being distinct. ACTH and beta-lipotropin (beta-LPH) are derived from a large precursor peptide. Each of these hormones is known to include smaller peptides having distinct biologic activities: alpha-melanotropin (alpha-MSH) and corticotropin-like intermediate lobe peptide (CLIP) are formed from ACTH; gamma-LPH and beta-endorphin are peptide components of beta-LPH. Beta-MSH is contained within gamma-LPH. The precursor peptide was called proopiomelanocortin (POMC).

Description:   At least 23 different variants of IFN- alpha are known. The individual proteins have molecular masses between 19-26 kDa and consist of proteins with lengths of 156-166 and 172 amino acids. All IFN- alpha subtypes possess a common conserved sequence region between amino acid positions 115-151 while the amino-terminal ends are variable. Many IFN- alpha subtypes only differ in their sequences by one or two positions. Naturally occurring variants also include proteins truncated by 10 amino acids at the carboxy-terminal end.

Description:   MPP3, also known as Discs large homolog 3 (DLG3), is a 585 amino acid protein belonging to the MAGUK family. Proteins in the MAGUK family, including CASK, ZO-1, ZO-2, p55 and MPP2, are known to regulate cell proliferation, intracellular junctions and signaling pathways by interacting with the cytoskeleton. MPP3 contains one guanylate kinase-like domain, one PDZ domain, two L27 domains and one SH3 domain. Via the PDZ domain, MMP3 interacts with the C-terminus of TSLC1. MMP3 has also been found to interact with SR-2A and SR-4.

Description:   Cysteine sulfinic acid decarboxylase (CSAD) catalyses the penultimate and rate limiting step of taurine synthesis. Taurine is an amino sulphonic acid and is one of the most abundant amino acids in the brain. It has been found to be essential to a number of biological processes such as development of the brain and eye, reproduction, diabetes, osmoregulation as well as the anti-inflammatory activity of leukocytes.

Description:   The leucine-rich (LRR) repeat is a 20-30 amino acid motif that forms a hydrophobic å/ horseshoe fold, allowing it to accommodate several leucine residues within a tightly packed core. All LRR repeats contain a variable segment and a highly conserved segment, the latter of which accounts for 11 or 12 residues of the entire LRR motif. ISLR2 (immunoglobulin superfamily containing leucine-rich repeat 2), also known as LINX (leucine-rich repeat domain and immunoglobulin domain-containing axon extension protein), is a 745 amino acid single-pass membrane protein that contains five LRR repeats, one Ig-like (immunoglobulin-like) domain, a LRRCT domain and one LRRNT domain. ISLR2 exists as a homomultimer and is essential for axon extension during neural development. The gene encoding ISLR2 maps to human chromosome 15q24.1.

Description:   Biotin, SE is amino-reactive biotinylating reagent for peptides and proteins; it has a better avidin-binding affinity than biotin. Biotin, SE (d-Biotin-N-hydroxysuccinimide ester) contains a five-carbon spacer arm that reduces steric hindrance associated with binding four biotinylated molecules per one avidin and results in enhanced detection sensitivity.

Description:   This amino acids 11 to 22 fragment of b-amyloid is capable of forming well-organized amyloid fibrils in vitro, similar to the pathogenic ones found in amyloidosis. Analysis of the structural properties of one monomer of b-amyloid (11-22) as well as of the aggregation mechanisms for four chains of b-amyloid (11-22) showed that the system assembles rapidly into a random globular state that evolves into three- and four-stranded antiparallel beta-sheets. The aggregation process is considerably accelerated by the presence of preformed dimers.

Description:   Members of the Hedgehog (Hh) family are highly conserved proteins that are widely represented throughout the animal kingdom. The three known mammalian Hh proteins, Sonic (Shh), Desert (Dhh) and Indian (Ihh), are structurally related, and share a high degree of amino acid sequence identity (e.g. Shh and Ihh are 93% identical). The biologically active form of each Hh molecule is obtained by autocatalytic cleavage of their precursor proteins, and each corresponds to approximately one half of the N-terminal portion of the precursor molecule. Although Hh proteins have unique expression patterns and distinct biological roles within their respective regions of secretion, they use the same signaling pathway and can be substituted for one another in experimental systems. Recombinant Murine Sonic Hedgehog (Shh) is a 20.0 kDa protein consisting of 176 amino acid residues, including an N-terminal Ile-Val-Ile sequence substituted for the naturally occurring, chemically modified Cys residue.
