Description:
AGPS is a 658 amino acid enzyme that is required for glycerolipid metabolism and ether lipid biosynthesis. Localized to the inner aspect of the peroxisomal membrane, AGPS is likely part of a heterotrimeric complex that is also composed of GNPAT and a modified form of GNPAT. Containing one FAD-binding PCMH-type domain, AGPS utilizes FAD as a cofactor in the synthesis of alkyl-glycerone 3-phophate and a long-chain acid anion from 1-acteyl-glyerone 3-phosphate and a long-chain alcohol. Defects in the gene encoding AGPS results in rhizomelic chondrodysplasia punctata type 3, a disease characterized by vertebral disorders, severe mental retardation, cutaneous lesions, cataracts and rhizomelic shortening of the humerus and femur.

Description:
Aldh3A2 Antibody: Aldh3A2 is a member of the aldehyde dehydrogenase superfamily, a group of NAD(P)(+)-dependent enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of a wide spectrum of aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes. Aldehyde dehydrogenase enzymes are thought to play a major role in the detoxification of aldehydes generated by alcohol metabolism and lipid peroxidation. Aldh3A2 catalyzes the oxidation of long-chain aliphatic aldehydes to fatty acids. Mutations in the Aldh3A2 gene cause Sjogren-Larrson syndrome, an inherited neurocutaneous disorder. Patients with this disorder display ichthyosis, mental retardation and spastic diplegia. The pathogenesis of the cutaneous and neurological symptoms is thought to result from abnormal lipid accumulation in the membranes of skin and brain, the formation of aldehyde Schiff base adducts with amine-containing lipids or proteins, or defective eicosanoid metabolism.

Description:
Catalyzes an early step in the biosynthesis of tetrapyrroles. Binds two molecules of 5-aminolevulinate per subunit, each at a distinct site, and catalyzes their condensation to form porphobilinogen.Involvement in disease:Defects in ALAD are the cause of acute hepatic porphyria (AHP). AHP is a form of porphyria. Porphyrias are inherited defects in the biosynthesis of heme, resulting in the accumulation and increased excretion of porphyrins or porphyrin precursors. They are classified as erythropoietic or hepatic, depending on whether the enzyme deficiency occurs in red blood cells or in the liver. AHP is characterized by attacks of gastrointestinal disturbances, abdominal colic, paralysis, and peripheral neuropathy. Most attacks are precipitated by drugs, alcohol, caloric deprivation, infections, or endocrine factors.

Description:
α-Terpineol is a monoterpene alcohol. It is one of the components responsible for the antifungal activity in Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) essential oil.[1] The reaction rate constant of α-terpineol with the OH radical and ozone was found to be (1.9±0.5)×10-10cm3 molecule-1s-1 and (3.0±0.2)×10-16cm3 molecule-1s-1, respectively.Application:α-Terpineol has been used as a reference standard for the identification of α-terpineol in tequila by solid phase microextraction (SPME) and capillary gas chromatography−mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and in virgin olive oil samples by headspace SPME followed by GC-MS equipped with flame ionization detector (FID).It may be used as a reference standard for the analysis of α-terpineol as trace volatile compound in wine by solid-phase extraction (SPE) followed by GC-MS and in essential oils and related compounds from aromatic plants by SPME and GC-MS.α-Terpineol may be used in the synthesis of α-terpinyl esters of acetic acid and acetic anhydride via lipase-mediated esterification.
