Description:
Chromosome 22 contains over 500 genes and about 49 million bases. Being the second smallest human chromosome, 22 contains a surprising variety of interesting genes. Phelan-McDermid syndrome, Neurofibromatosis type 2 and autism are associated with chromosome 22. A schizophrenia susceptibility locus has been identified on chromosome 22 and studies show that 22q11 deletion symptoms include a high incidence of schizophrenia. Translocations between chromosomes 9 and 22 may lead to the formation of the Philadelphia Chromosome and the subsequent production of the novel fusion protein, BCR-Abl, a potent cell proliferation activator found in several types of leukemia. CCDC134 (coiled-coil domain containing 134), also known as MGC21013 or FLJ22349, is a 229 amino acid protein encoded by a gene mapping to human chromosome 22.

Description:
Members of the suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) family of proteins contain C-terminal regions of homology called the SOCS box, which serves to couple SOCS proteins and their binding partners with the Elongin B and C complex. Several other families of proteins also contain SOCS boxes, but differ from the SOCS proteins in the type of domain they contain upstream of the SOCS box. The largest family of SOCS box-containing proteins is the ankyrin repeat and SOCS box-containing (ASB) protein family. Members of the ASB family include ASB-1 through ASB-18 and are involved in a variety of biological processes. ASB-17 is a 295 amino acid member of this family. ASB-17 contains one ankyrin repeat and one SOCS box domain. ASB-17 is thought to be a substrate-recognition subunit of a SCF-like ECS (Elongin-Cullin-SOCS-box protein) E3 ubiquitin protein ligase complex. This complex mediates the ubiquitination of target proteins and their subsequent proteasomal degradation.

Self-contained, disposable devices for filtering fibrin and separating serum and plasma from centrifuged whole blood specimens contained in standard 16, 13, or 10.25mm I.D. evacuated blood collection tubes. Technique reduces second centrifugations, tube labeling, and sample preparation time. With collection tube in vertical position, insert stopper end of the filter sampler at a 45° angle and push gently down to just above clot. Filtered serum or plasma will rise into the barrel for analysis.

Description:
The Anti-Glut2 antibody was designed, produced, and validated as part of the Joy Cappel Young Investigator Award (JCYIA). The glucose transporter GLUT2 is a transmembrane carrier protein that allows protein facilitated glucose movement across cell membranes. GLUT2 is expressed in the plasma membranes of the liver, intestine, renal tubular cells, pancreatic islet beta cells, as well as in the portal and hypothalamic areas. Due to its low affinity and high capacity, GLUT2 transports dietary sugars, glucose, galactose and fructose in high concentrations, displaying large bidirectional fluxes in and out of cells. In pancreatic beta cells, GLUT2 is essential for glucose-stimulated insulin secretion. GLUT2 expression is necessary for the physiological control of glucose-sensitive genes, and its inactivation in the liver leads to impaired glucose-stimulated insulin secretion. In the nervous system, GLUT2-dependent glucose sensing regulates feeding, thermoregulation and pancreatic islet cell mass and function, as well as sympathetic and parasympathetic activities. In humans, inactivating mutations in GLUT2 cause Fanconi–Bickel syndrome, which is characterized by hepatomegaly and kidney disease. Anti-Glut2 is ideal for researchers interested in studying glucose transport mediated by Glut2 protein in the fields of diabetes, obesity, metabolism, and neuroscience research.
