Description:
Adenosine is involved in a variety of processes, including the synthesis of urea, the anti-inflammatory response, and the inhibition of protein synthesis. The Adenosine receptors, including Adenosine A1-R, Adenosine A2A-R, Adenosine A2B-R and Adenosine A3-R, are integral membrane proteins that are members of the G protein-coupled receptor family. Adenosine A1-R mediates ureagenesis in a partially calcium-dependent manner. Adenosine is known to mediate coronary vasodilation via Adenosine A2A-R. Collagen synthesis and total protein synthesis are inhibited in certain cells by Adenosine, acting via the A2B receptors. Activation of Adenosine A3-R inhibits the induction of TNF?and blocks the endotoxin CD14 receptor signal transduction pathway.

Description:
The protein encoded by this gene is a transferase, which catalyzes conversion of hypoxanthine to inosine monophosphate and guanine to guanosine monophosphate via transfer of the 5-phosphoribosyl group from 5-phosphoribosyl 1-pyrophosphate. This enzyme plays a central role in the generation of purine nucleotides through the purine salvage pathway. Mutations in this gene result in Lesch-Nyhan syndrome or gout.[provided by RefSeq, Jun 2009].

Description:
Catalyzes the hydrolytic deamination of adenosine and 2-deoxyadenosine. Plays an important role in purine metabolism and in adenosine homeostasis. Modulates signaling by extracellular adenosine, and so contributes indirectly to cellular signaling events. Acts as a positive regulator of T-cell coactivation, by binding DPP4. Its interaction with DPP4 regulates lymphocyte-epithelial cell adhesion.

Description:
The HPRT1 gene provides instructions for making an enzyme called hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase 1. This enzyme allows cells to recycle purines, some of the building blocks of DNA and its chemical cousin RNA.The enzyme hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltrasferase (E.C.2.4.2.8., HPRT) plays a crucial role in uric acid synthesis and purine metabolism. This enzyme catalyzes the conversion of hypoxanthine and guanine to inosine monophosphate (IMP) and guanosine monophosphate (GMP), respectively, and uses phosphoribosylpyrophosphate (PRPP) as a cosubstrate and as a source of energy. This pathway is also known as the purine salvage pathway because it allows cells to reuse purine compounds to build DNA and RNA.
