CD105, also known as endoglin, is a disulfide-linked type II transmembrane homodimer that is predominantly expressed on vascular endothelial cells. It is also found on pre-erythroblasts, macrophages, and lymphoid and myeloid leukemic cells. Both mouse and human CD105 exhibit >70% sequence homology in their cytoplasmic domains with type III transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) receptor. CD105 has been shown to be one of several receptors for the various isoforms of TGFβ which in turn is one of a family of proteins involved in regulation of cell differentiation, migration of cells, and control of the immune response.

FNDC3A is a 1,134 amino acid protein that belongs to the FNDC3 family of proteins. FNDC3A contains an N-terminal proline-rich region, nine fibronectin type-III domains (none of which contain an RGD sequence) and a hydrophobic C-terminal transmembranous helix. Expressed in a wide variety of tissues, FNDC3A localizes to Golgi vesicles and to the developing acrosome of spermatids. FNDC3A is believed to function in glycosaminoglycan and collagen synthesis. In mice, a mutation in the gene encoding FNDC3A causes male sterility due to defective adhesion between Sertoli cells and spermatids in the seminiferous epithelium. This suggests that FNDC3A plays an important role in spermatogenesis, possibly mediating or maintaining the adhesion between Sertoli cells and spermatids.

Sirtuins comprise a unique class of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+)-dependent deacetylases (class III HDACs) targeting multiple protein substrates. Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), the human homolog of yeast Sir2 (Silent Information Regulator 2), is the most studied of the seven members of sirtuin family. SIRT1 have been implicated in several important cellular processes, including genomic stability and DNA repair, p53-mediated apoptosis, adipogenesis, and aging. Substrates for SIRT2 are not limited to histones but also include various transcription factors and co-regulators that modulate metabolic, cell cycle and cell death related pathways. Human SIRT2 is a cytoplasmic protein that increases in abundance during mitosis and regulates major events of cytokinesis.
