Description:
The calcium binding protein (CaBP) family shares much similarity to calmodulin. It has been shown that CaBP proteins can substitute functionally for, and probably augment the function of, calmodulin. Calcium binding proteins are a crucial part of calcium mediated cellular signal transduction in the central nervous system. There are several members of the family with varying expression patterns. CaBP1 and CaBP2 can be expressed as multiple, alternatively spliced variants in brain and retina. CaBP3, CaBP4 and CaBP 5 are restricted to retinal rod and cone cells.

Description:
Ribose-Phosphate Pyrophosphokinase 2 (PRPS2) is a phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate synthetase that belongs to the ribose-phosphate pyrophosphokinase family. PRPS2 is a homodimer. The active form is probably an hexamer composed of three homodimers. PRPS2 catalyzes the synthesis of phosphoribosylpyrophosphate (PRPP) that is essential for nucleotide synthesis. PRPS2 catalyzes the synthesis of 5-phosphoribosyl 1-pyrophosphate from ATP and D-ribose 5-phosphate. In addition, PRPS2 plays a central role in the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines.

Description:
RCV1 is a member of the recoverin family of neuronal calcium sensors. RCV1 contains three calcium-binding EF-hand domains and may prolong the termination of the phototransduction cascade in the retina by blocking the phosphorylation of photo-activated rhodopsin. Recoverin may be the antigen responsible for cancer-associated retinopathy. The protein encoded by this gene contains four calcium-binding EF-hand domains and belongs to the recoverin family of neuronal calcium sensors. Recoverin may prolong the termination of the phototransduction cascade by blocking the phosphorylation of photo-activated rhodopsin. Recoverin may be the antigen responsible for cancer-associated retinopathy; an autoimmune disease of the retina caused by a tumor in another tissue.

Description:
Annexin A7 is a member of the annexin family of calcium-dependent phospholipid binding proteins. The Annexin A7 gene contains 14 exons and spans approximately 34 kb of DNA. Structural analysis of the protein suggests that Annexin A7 is a membrane binding protein with diverse properties including voltage-sensitive calcium channel activity, ion selectivity and membrane fusion.

Description:
Stim I antibody helps regulate calcium influx after the depletion of intracellular calcium stores. It functions as a calcium sensor in the endoplasmic reticulum via its EF-hand domain. After depletion of Ca+2, it is translocated from the endoplasmic reticulum to the plasma membrane so the calicum release-activated channel subunit is activated. Anti-Stim I antibody is ideal for investigators interested in Metabolism and Signal Transduction research.
