Description:
This gene encodes a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and the TGFB receptor subfamily. The encoded protein is a transmembrane protein that has a protein kinase domain, forms a heterodimeric complex with another receptor protein, and binds TGF-beta. This receptor/ligand complex phosphorylates proteins, which then enter the nucleus and regulate the transcription of a subset of genes related to cell proliferation. Mutations in this gene have been associated with Marfan Syndrome, Loeys-Deitz Aortic Aneurysm Syndrome, and the development of various types of tumors. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been characterized.

Description:
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the Ser/Thr protein kinase family. It is required for checkpoint mediated cell cycle arrest in response to DNA damage or the presence of unreplicated DNA. This protein acts to integrate signals from ATM and ATR, two cell cycle proteins involved in DNA damage responses, that also associate with chromatin in meiotic prophase I. Phosphorylation of CDC25A protein phosphatase by this protein is required for cells to delay cell cycle progression in response to double-strand DNA breaks. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011].

Description:
CDKL3 or cyclin-dependent kinase-like 3 is a member of cyclin-dependent protein kinase (CDK) family which is highly similar to the gene products of Saccharomyces cerevisiae cdc28, and Schizosaccharomyces pombe cdc2, and is known to be important regulators of cell cycle progression and cellular proliferation. CDKL3 is a novel CDC2-related kinase with features of both mitogen-activated protein kinases and cyclin-dependent kinases (1). CDKL3 is identified as a gene absent in leukemic patients with chromosome 5q deletion and this loss may be an important determinant of dysmyelopoiesis (2). CDKL3 Protein is ideal for investigators involved in Signaling Proteins, Cellular Proteins, Cancer, Cell Cycle, and Ser/Thr Kinases research.

Description:
BUB1 is a kinase which involved in spindle checkpoint function that in part by phosphorylating a member of the miotic checkpoint complex and activating the spindle checkpoint. BUB1 is highly expreesed in thymus, ovary, and testis (1). BUB1 maintains the steady-state level and centromeric localization of SGO1, and they concluded that BUB1 protects centromeric cohesion in mitosis through SGO1 (2). BUB1-mediated phosphorylation of CDC20 is required for proper checkpoint signaling and that inhibition of APC by BUB1 may partly account for the sensitivity of the spindle checkpoint. BUB1 kinase creates a mark for shugoshin localization and the correct partitioning of chromosomes. BUB1 Protein is ideal for investigators involved in Signaling Proteins, Cellular Proteins, Cancer, Cell Cycle, and Ser/Thr Kinases research.

Description:
ALK7 is a type I receptor for the TGFB family of signaling molecules in which type I receptors phosphorylate cytoplasmic SMAD transcription factors, which then translocate to the nucleus and interact directly with DNA or in complex with other transcription factors (1). Alk7 was expressed in all insulin, glucagon, and somatostatin -positive cells of the pancreas (2). GDF3 regulates adipose tissue homeostasis and energy balance under nutrient overload, in part, by signaling through ALK7 and Alk7 showed reduced fat accumulation and partial resistance to diet-induced obesity, similar to Gdf3. ALK7 Protein is ideal for investigators involved in Signaling Proteins, Cellular Proteins, AKT/PKB Pathway, Angiogenesis, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, JAK/STAT Pathway, Neurobiology, and Ser/Thr Kinase research.

Description:
Cell cycle progression is controlled in part by a family of cyclin proteins and cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks). Cdk proteins work in concert with the cyclins to phosphorylate key substrates involved in each phase of cell cycle progression. Another family of proteins, Cdk inhibitors, also plays a role in regulating the cell cycle by binding to cyclin-Cdk complexes and modulating their activity. CDKL5 (cyclin-dependent kinase-like 5) is a 1030 amino acid protein that belongs to the CMGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family. Expressed in brain, lung, kidney, prostate, ovary, placenta, pancreas and testis, CDKL5 is thought to play a role in cell cycle regulation. Defects in CDKL5 are a cause of several disorders, such as X-linked infantile spasm syndrome and Rett syndrome.

The HUNK (hormonally upregulated Neu-associated kinase) protein, also designated MAK-V in mouse, has been identified as a novel SNF1-related serine/threonine kinase. The human HUNK gene localizes to chromosome 21q22 and encodes a protein with nucleocytoplasmic distribution and localizes to the centrosome. Overexpression of the HUNK protein associates with approximately 50% of breast carcinomas, and may provide diagnostic-prognostic value as a molecular marker. Serine/threonine-protein kinase SNF1-like kinase 2 (SIK) phosphorylates Ser-794 of IRS1 in insulin-stimulated adipocytes, which may modulate the efficiency of insulin signal transduction. SIK is activated by phosphorylation on Thr-175 by STK11 in complex with STE20-related adapter-α and CAB39.

This fluorescent (FRET) peptide substrate contains the wild-type amyloid precursor protein (APP) β-secretase cleavage site. Mca-SEVKMDAEFRK(Dnp)RR- amide has been used for assaying β-secretase-like activity of thimet oligopeptidase (TOP, EC 3.4.24.15). The results suggested that TOP is a potential β-secretase candidate and is involved in the processing of APP in vivo. See also L-1905.

Description:
C9orf96, also known as Protein kinase-like protein SgK071, is a 680 amino acid protein that belongs to the Ser/Thr protein kinase family of the protein kinase superfamily. There are three isoforms of C9orf96 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events. The gene encoding C9orf96 maps to human chromosome 9, which consists of about 145 million bases and 4% of the human genome and encodes nearly 900 genes. Considered to play a role in gender determination, deletion of the distal portion of 9p can lead to development of male to female sex reversal, the phenotype of a female with a male X,Y genotype. Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, which is characterized by harmful vascular defects, is associated with the chromosome 9 gene encoding endoglin protein, ENG. Familial dysautonomia is also associated with chromosome 9 though through the gene IKBKAP. Notably, chromosome 9 encompasses the largest interferon family gene cluster. Chromosome 9 is partnered with chromosome 22 in the translocation leading to the aberrant production of BCR-ABL fusion protein often found in leukemias.
