Proliferation Marker Ki67 antigen is the prototypic cell cycle related nuclear protein, expressed by proliferating cells in all phases of the active cell cycle (G1, S, G2 and M phase). It is absent in resting (G0) cells. Ki67 are useful in establishing the cell growing fraction in neoplasms (immunohistochemically quantified by determining the number of Ki67 positive cells among the total number of resting cells = Ki67 index). In neoplastic tissues the prognostic value is comparable to the tritiated thymidine labelling index. The correlation between low Ki67 index and histologically low grade tumours is strong. Ki67 is routinely used as a neuronal marker of cell cycling and proliferation.

Description:
LTβR is involved in peripheral lymphoid tissue organogenesis and function. The LTα/LTβR receptor system may also have some function in early embryogenesis. LTβR is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein and member of the TNF receptor superfamily. It is a 61kDa receptor for the mouse LTα1β2 and LIGHT. Northern blot analysis of tissues from adult mice showed that expression levels of LTβR mRNA were strong in lung, liver, and kidney, moderate in heart and testes, but weak in brain, thymus, spleen, and lymph nodes. It was reported that LTβR is expressed on stromal cells, monocytes, and certain embryonic epithelial layers. LTβR is involved in peripheral lymphoid tissue organogenesis and function. The LTα/LTβR receptor system may also have some function in early embryogenesis.

The catenins (alpha, beta, gamma and δ) are ubiquitously expressed, cytoplasmic proteins that associate with E-cadherin at cellular junctions. Catenin/cadherin complexes play an important role in mediating cellular adhesion. alpha T-catenin, also referred to as VR22, is a 895-amino acid protein that is most abundantly expressed in cardio-myocytes and in the peritubular myoid cells of the testis. alpha T-catenin binds to alpha E-catenin as well as to beta-catenin, and it functions to inhibit Wnt signaling. CTNNA3, the gene that encodes for alpha-T-catenin, is located on chromosome 10, and mutations in this gene show a strong correlation to late-onset Alzheimer s disease (LOAD) as well as to dilated cardiomyopathy.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder characterized by mental retardation and the widespread development of distinctive tumors termed hamartomas. Two different genetic loci have been linked to TSC; one of these loci, the tuberous sclerosis-2 gene (TSC2), encodes a protein called tuberin and the other loci, tuberous sclerosis-1 gene (TSC1), encodes a protein called hamartin. Tuberin and hamartin interact with each other forming a cystoplasmic complex. Hamartin interacts with the ezrin-radixin-moesin (ERM) family of actin-binding proteins and inhibition of hamartin activity results in loss of cell adhesion. Hamartin is present in most adult tissues with strong expression in brain, heart, and kidney.
