CD14/TLR4 antagonist. Inhibitor of sterile inflammation. Synthetic TLR4/CD14 ligand with TLR4 modulating activities in vitro, and conferring protection against TLR4/CD14-mediated tissue damage and inflammation in vivo. Useful to explore CD14- dependent and TLR4-independent pathways and TLR4 activation by endogenous ligands (e.g. hyaluronic acid oligosaccharides, oxLDL, HMGB1) in sterile inflammation. Shown to inhibit neuropathic pain, secondary necrosis of acute drug-induced liver failure and vascular inflammation, and abdominal aortic aneurysm by blocking non-hematopoietic TLR4 signaling. Useful tool, where inhibition of sterile (auto-) inflammation is desired, without compromising TLR4’s key role in the defense of pathogens.

The genus Aspergillus includes over 185 species. Around 20 species have been reported as causative agents of opportunistic infections in humans. Among these, Aspergillus fumigatus is the most commonly isolated species, followed by Aspergillus flavus. Aspergillus fumigatus is the major cause of aspergillosis. This organism causes both invasive and allergic aspergillosis. Aspergillus also produce fungal toxins called mycotoxins. Aflatoxin is produced by Aspergillus flavus as it grows on corn and peanuts. The toxin is poisonous to humans by ingestion and causes liver disease. Aspergillus nidulans can produce the mycotoxin sterigmatocystin. This toxin has been shown to produce liver and kidney damage in lab animals. Aspergillus oschraceus,found in grains, soil and salted food products can produce a kidney toxin called oschratoxin A, which may produce oschratoxicosis in humans. Ochratoxin may also be produced by other aspergillus and penicillium species. Other toxins that can be produced by this fungus include penicillic acid, xanthomegnin and viomellein. Aspergillus infections have a very high mortality rate. Their incidence is growing because of the increased number of immunocompromised patients. Previous to antibodies such as these, special stains were used to identify aspergillus. Aspergillus oryzae and Aspergillus niger are used extensively in industrial scale fermentation to produce enzymes for processing household food and drink products.

PG 99-465 is a high affinity, selective VPAC2 receptor antagonist. It exhibited a 100-fold preference for the VPAC2 over the VPAC1 receptor. The compound showed partial agonistic activity on the VPAC1 receptor and was inactive on the VPAC2 receptor transfected in CHO cells, as well as on naturally expressed human VPAC2 receptors in the SUP T1 cell line. Dickson et al. observed an agonistic effect of PG99-465 on the human VPAC1 and PAC1 receptors. When applied singly, PG99-465 increased [cAMP](i) at all three hVPAC/PAC receptor subtypes.

Protein A is a non-glycosylated cell wall protein of Staphylococcus aureus that can bind the Fc part of immunoglobulin molecule of different species with strong affinity (1-4). Protein A consists of five IgG binding domains (A, B, C, D, and E), each approximately 60 amino acids long with no cysteines present and two S. aureus cell membrane binding domains, X and M (3). Application: Recombinant Protein A can be used for immunoprecipitation, antibodies purification, and assay development.
