Description:
The activity dependent neuroprotective protein (ADNP) gene is frequently amplified in many neoplasias, including breast, bladder, ovarian, pancreatic, and colon cancers. ADNP mRNA is abundantly expressed in distinct normal tissues, and high expression levels were encountered in malignant cells. ADNP is implicated in maintaining cell survival, perhaps through modulation of p53. The encoded protein contains one homeobox and nine zinc finger domains, suggesting that it functions as a transcription factor.

Description:
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the tripartite motif (TRIM) family. The TRIM motif includes three zinc binding domains, a RING, a B box type 1 and a B box type 2, and a coiled coil region. The protein localizes to cytoplasmic bodies. Its function has not been identified. Alternative splicing of this gene generates three transcript variants, named alpha, beta and gamma.

Description:
NFX1 is a transcriptional repressor capable of binding to the conserved X box motif of HLA-DRA and other MHC class II genes in vitro. It may play a role in the inflammatory response, regulating its duration by limiting the period in which class II MHC molecules are induced by IFN gamma. The RING type zinc finger domain interacts with an ubiquitin conjugating enzyme (E2) and facilitates ubiquitination.

Description:
ADAM15 is a member of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase) protein family. ADAM family members are type I transmembrane glycoproteins known to be involved in cell adhesion and proteolytic ectodomain processing of cytokines and adhesion molecules. This protein contains multiple functional domains including a zinc-binding metalloprotease domain, a disintegrin-like domain, as well as a EGF-like domain. Through its disintegrin-like domain, this protein specifically interacts with the integrin beta chain, beta 3. It also interacts with Src family protein-tyrosine kinases in a phosphorylation-dependent manner, suggesting that this protein may function in cell-cell adhesion as well as in cellular signaling. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase) protein family. Description:
DUSP12 is a member of the dual specificity protein phosphatase subfamily. These phosphatases inactivate their target kinases by dephosphorylating both the phosphoserine/threonine and phosphotyrosine residues. They negatively regulate members of the mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase superfamily (MAPK/ERK, SAPK/JNK, p38), which is associated with cellular proliferation and differentiation. Different members of the family of dual specificity phosphatases show distinct substrate specificities for various MAP kinases, different tissue distribution and subcellular localization, and different modes of inducibility of their expression by extracellular stimuli. DUSP12 is the human ortholog of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae YVH1 protein tyrosine phosphatase. It is localized predominantly in the nucleus, and is novel in that it contains, and is regulated by a zinc finger domain. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the dual specificity protein phosphatase subfamily. Description:
CDO1 (cysteine dioxygenase, type I) belongs to the cysteine dioxygenase family and is involved in organosulfur biosynthesis. CDO1 functions as a dioxygenase that uses iron and zinc as cofactors to catalyze the conversion of L-cysteine and oxygen to 3-sulfinoalanine. CDO1 exists as a monomer and is expressed at high levels in liver and placenta and at lower levels in brain, pancreas and heart. CDO1 is involved in pyruvate-, sulfate- and taurine-related metabolic pathways and is a crucial regulator of cysteine concentrations within the cell.

Description:
Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinases 1 (TIMP-1) complexes with metalloproteinases (such as collagenases) and irreversibly inactivates them by binding to their catalytic zinc cofactor. Also mediates erythropoiesis in vitro; but, unlike IL-3, it is species-specific, stimulating the growth and differentiation of only human and murine erythroid progenitors. Known to act on MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-7, MMP-8, MMP-9, MMP-10, MMP-11, MMP-12, MMP-13, and MMP-16. TIMP-1 does not act on MMP-14.

Tripartite motif-containing protein 29 interacts with the intermediate filament protein vimentin, a substrate for the PKC family of protein kinases, and with hPKCI-1, an inhibitor of the PKCs. TRIM29 protein contains both zinc finger and leucine zipper motifs, suggesting that the it may form homodimers and possibly associate with DNA.

Description:
TIS11D is a member of the TIS11 family of early response genes. Family members are induced by various agonists such as the phorbol ester TPA and the polypeptide mitogen EGF. The encoded protein contains a distinguishing putative zinc finger domain with a repeating cys-his motif. This putative nuclear transcription factor most likely functions in regulating the response to growth factors.
