Description:   ZMYM3 Antibody: Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains characterized by the unique role of zinc and have a wide variety of functions such as transcriptional activation or repression. The protein folding and the DNA binding ability are governed by the coordination of a zinc ion. As a member of the MYM (myeloproliferative and mental retardation) gene family, ZMYM3 is highly conserved in vertebrates and most abundantly expressed in the brain. The encoded protein is a component of histone deacetylase-containing multiprotein complexes that function through modifying chromatin structure to keep genes silent. A chromosomal translocation (X;13) involving this gene is associated with X-linked mental retardation.

Description:   The Makorins are a family of putative ribonucleoproteins containing two to four C3H zinc fingers that may confer RNA-binding. In addition, they contain a C3HC4 RING zinc finger that allows them to function as E3 ubiquitin ligases. Makorin-2, also known as RNF62, HSPC070 or MKRN2, is a widely expressed, evolutionarily conserved protein with four C3H-type zinc fingers (three at the N-terminus and one at the C-terminus), one RING-type zinc finger and a cysteine and histidine motif similar to that found in Makorin-1. In Xenopus, Makorin-2 functions, via PI 3-kinase/Akt signaling, as a negative regulator of neurogenesis. In humans, Makorin-2 is overexpressed in various cancer cell lines, suggesting a possible role of Makorin-2 in tumor progression. In addition, Makorin-2 is co-expressed with Raf-1 in the same tissues and cell lines.

Description:   The RING-type zinc finger motif is present in a number of viral and eukaryotic proteins and is made of a conserved cysteine-rich domain that is able to bind two zinc atoms. Proteins that contain this conserved domain are generally involved in the ubiquitination pathway of protein degradation. RNF185 (ring finger protein 185), also known as FLJ38628, is a 192 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein containing one RING-type zinc finger. Two RNF185 isoforms exist as a result of alternative splicing, and the gene encoding RNF185 maps to human chromosome 22, which houses over 500 genes and is the second smallest human chromosome. Mutations in several of the genes that map to chromosome 22 are involved in the development of Phelan-McDermid syndrome, Neurofibromatosis type 2, autism and schizophrenia.

Description:   GZF1 Antibody: The GDNF-inducible zinc finger protein 1 (GZF1) is a sequence-specific transcriptional repressor with a BTB/POZ domain and ten zinc finger motifs whose expression is required for renal branching morphogenesis during kidney development. GZF1 binds to the 5'regulatory region of the homeodomain protein HOXA10, suggesting that GZF1 may play a role in morphogenesis other than kidney development. Recent experiments have indicated that GZF1 associates with nucleolin and this association is mediated by the first four zinc finger motifs of GZF1. It is thought that Nucleolin modulates the subcellular localization of GZF1 as well as its transcriptional repressor activity.

Description:   The tripartite motif (TRIM) family of proteins are characterized by a conserved TRIM domain that includes a coiled-coil region, a B-box type zinc finger, one RING finger and three zinc-binding domains. TRIM7 (tripartite motif-containing 7), also known as RNF90 or GNIP, is a 511 amino acid protein that belongs to the TRIM family and contains one RING-type zinc finger, one B box-type zinc finger and one SPRY domain. Expressed in placenta and skeletal muscle and present at lower levels in brain, heart and pancreas, TRIM7 localizes to both the cytoplasm and the nucleus where it exists as dimers and is thought to participate in the initiation of glycogen synthesis. Multiple isoforms of TRIM7 exist due to alternative splicing events.

Description:   The tripartite motif (TRIM) family of proteins are characterized by a conserved TRIM domain that includes a coiled-coil region, a B-box type zinc finger, one RING finger and three zinc-binding domains. TRIM17 (tripartite motif-containing 17), also known as RBCC, terf or RNF16, is a 477 amino acid protein that contains one RING-type zinc finger, one SPRY domain and one B box-type zinc finger. Expressed nearly exclusively in testis, TRIM17 belongs to the TRIM family and, based on its functional domains, may play a role in transcriptional regulation events. The gene encoding TRIM17 maps to human chromosome 1, which spans 260 million base pairs, contains over 3,000 genes and comprises nearly 8% of the human genome. Chromosome 1 houses a large number of disease-associated genes, including those that are involved in familial adenomatous polyposis, Stickler syndrome, Parkinson?s disease, Gaucher disease, schizophrenia and Usher syndrome. Aberrations in chromosome 1 are found in a variety of cancers, including head and neck cancer, malignant melanoma and multiple myeloma.

Description:   Olfactory sensory neurons contain olfactory receptors, which are G protein-coupled receptor proteins that localize to the cilia and display affinity for and bind to a variety of odor molecules. Olfactory neurons send their axons from the olfactory epithelium to the olfactory bulb, which is covered by the CNS basal lamina. FEZF1 (Fez family zinc finger protein 1), also known as Forebrain Embryonic Zinc Finger and Zinc finger protein 312B, is a 475 amino acid nuclear protein that is expressed in the olfactory epithelium and hypothalamus of mice. In FEZF1-deficient mice, axons of olfactory neurons do not reach the olfactory bulb, suggesting that FEXF1 is required for the penetration of olfactory axons though the basal lamina before innervation of the olfactory bulb. When FEZF1 translocates to the nucleus, it induces KRAS overexpression, resulting in activation of ERK-signaling. Overexpression of FEZF1 leads to accelerated proliferation in cultured cells and increased tumor mass in mice. There are three isoforms of FEZF1 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

Description:   Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have a wide variety of functions, most of which encompass some form of transcriptional activation or repression. The majority of zinc-finger proteins contain a krueppel-type DNA binding domain and a KRAB domain, which is thought to interact with KAP1, thereby recruiting histone modifying proteins. GLI-4, also known as HKR4, is a 376 amino acid protein that localizes to the nucleus and contains seven C2H2-type zinc fingers. Belonging to the krueppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family, GLI-4 may function as a transcriptional regulator, effectively activating or repressing the transcription of target genes.
