Description:   PRUNE, the human homologue of the Drosophila gene, is located in 1q21.3, a region highly amplified in human sarcomas, malignant tumours of mesenchymal origin. Human prune (h-prune), a phosphoesterase DHH family appertaining protein, physically interacts with nm23-H1, a metastasis suppressor gene. h-prune is involved in cellular motility and metastasis formation. Metastatic breast cancers were found to overexpress h-prune; h-prune was also found to be highly expressed in colorectal and pancreatic cancers. Hence h-prune is considered useful as a marker for tumor aggressiveness.

Description:   Perilipin is an intracellular neutral lipid droplet protein that is hormonally regulated. This protein is localized exclusively to the surface of lipid droplets. In response to lypotic stimuli, perilipin is phosphorylated by protein kinase A. Once activated, perilipin has inhibitory affects upon hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), a protein that mediates the hydrolysis of triacylglycerol, the major form of stored energy in the body. Perilipin expression is limited to adipocytes and steroidogenic cells. There are currently two known isoforms, Perilipin A and B. Both of these proteins are encoded by a single-copy gene and are the result of differential splicing events.

Description:   The minichromosome maintenance protein 3 (MCM3) is one of the MCM proteins essential for the initiation of DNA replication. The protein encoded by this gene is a MCM3 binding protein. It was reported to have phosphorylation-dependent DNA-primase activity, which was up-regulated in antigen immunization induced germinal center. This protein was demonstrated to be an acetyltransferase that acetylates MCM3 and plays a role in DNA replication. The mutagenesis of a nuclear localization signal of MCM3 affects the binding of this protein with MCM3, suggesting that this protein may also facilitate MCM3 nuclear localization.

Description:   FAIM1 (or Fas Apoptotic Inhibitory Molecule 1) is a recently discovered negative regulator of apoptosis. FAIM1 has no significant regions of homology to other gene products that modulate Fas killing. It plays a role as an inducible effector molecule that mediates Fas resistance produced by surface Ig engagement in B cells. Overexpression of FAIM1 diminishes sensitivity to Fas mediated apoptosis of B and non B cell lines.
