Supplier:  Bioss
Description:   Mammalian spermatogenesis is a complex developmental process. Mutations at multiple loci and in structurally and functionally disparate genes in the genome affect gametogenesis. The analysis of mutations has provided insight into biochemical pathways required for completion of this process. The basic protein on Y chromosome 2 gene (BPY2, also designated VCY2) is located in a frequently deleted azoospermia factor c region. Three copies (paralogs) of the BPY2 gene (BPY2A, BPY2B, BPY2C) reside in the AZFc region. BPY2 protein expression is localized to the nuclei of spermatogonia, spermatocytes and round spermatids, but is absent from elongated spermatids. Impaired expression of BPY2 in infertile men suggests its involvement in male germ cell development. BPY2 interacts with MAP-1S, which shares homology with microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs), suggesting a role for BPY2 within the cytoskeletal network.

Description:   Acute phase-regulated receptor involved in clearance and endocytosis of hemoglobin/haptoglobin complexes by macrophages and may thereby protect tissues from free hemoglobin-mediated oxidative damage. May play a role in the uptake and recycling of iron, via endocytosis of hemoglobin/haptoglobin and subsequent breakdown of heme. Binds hemoglobin/haptoglobin complexes in a calcium-dependent and pH-dependent manner. Exhibits a higher affinity for complexes of hemoglobin and multimeric haptoglobin of HP*1F phenotype than for complexes of hemoglobin and dimeric haptoglobin of HP*1S phenotype. Induces a cascade of intracellular signals that involves tyrosine kinase-dependent calcium mobilization, inositol triphosphate production and secretion of IL6 and CSF1. Isoform 3 exhibits the higher capacity for ligand endocytosis and the more pronounced surface expression when expressed in cells. After shedding, the soluble form (sCD163) may play an anti-inflammatory role, and may be a valuable diagnostic parameter for monitoring macrophage activation in inflammatory conditions.

Description:   XBP-1 antibody detects human XBP-1. X box binding protein 1 (XBP-1) is a key protein in the mammalian unfolded protein response (UPR) that protects the cell against the stress of malfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Upon sensing unfolded proteins, an ER transmembrane endonuclease and kinase termed IRE1p is activated and excises an intron from XBP-1 mRNA. The spliced XBP-1 mRNA results in a 371 amino acid protein (XBP-1s) which is then translocated to the nucleus where it binds to the regulatory elements of downstream genes. Together with other UPR transcription factors such as ATF6, XBP-1 stimulates the production of ER stress proteins including the ER resident protein chaperones glucose regulated protein (GRP) 78 and GRP94. Anti-XP1 is ideal for investigators involved in enzyme, cell cycle proteins and cancer research.

Description:   Caspase 2 has a positive and a negative role in the regulation of the apoptotic process. Overexpression of the full length Caspase 2 (Nedd2/Ich1) mRNA in some cell types results in apoptosis, whereas overexpression of an alternative Caspase 2 splice variant suppresses apoptosis induced by serum withdrawal. Caspase 2 may be activated in vitro by Caspase 1, Caspase 3 and the neutral serine protease granzyme B which is stored in the specialized lytic granules of cytotoxic lymphocytes.
