Description:
CLUAP1 (Clusterin associated protein 1) is a 413 amino acid nuclear protein that exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms that interact with Clusterin. CLUAP1 is suggested to play a role in apoptosis and cell proliferation, and is expressed in testis, thrachea and thyroid, with low levels found in adrenal gland and spinal cord. The gene encoding CLUAP1 maps to human chromosome 16, which encodes over 900 genes and comprises nearly 3% of the human genome. The GAN gene is located on chromosome 16 and, with mutation, may lead to giant axonal neuropathy, a nervous system disorder characterized by increasing malfunction with growth. The rare disorder Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome is also associated with chromosome 16, as is Crohn's disease, which is a gastrointestinal inflammatory condition.

Description:
GFOD2 is a 385 amino acid secreted protein of the extracellular matrix that belongs to the gfo/idh/mocA family. Existing as two alternatively spliced isoforms, GFOD2 enhances matrix assembly and is encoded by a gene that maps to human chromosome 16q22.1. Chromosome 16 encodes over 900 genes and comprises nearly 3% of the human genome. The GAN gene is located on chromosome 16 and, with mutation, may lead to giant axonal neuropathy, a nervous system disorder characterized by increasing malfunction with growth. Description:
HEATR3 is a 680 amino acid protein existing as three alternatively spliced isoforms and containing two HEAT (Huntingtin, elongation factor 3 (EF3), protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) and the yeast PI3-kinase Tor1) repeats. HEAT repeats form rod-like helical structures that are involved in intracellular transport. HEATR3 is encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 16, which encodes over 900 genes and comprises nearly 3% of the human genome. The GAN gene is located on chromosome 16 and, with mutation, may lead to giant axonal neuropathy, a nervous system disorder characterized by increasing malfunction with growth. Description:
Proteins containing PDZ domains have been shown frequently to bind the C-termini of transmembrane receptors or ion channels. They have also been shown to bind to other PDZ domain proteins and could possibly be involved in intracellular signalling. PDZK3 contains six PDZ domains and shares sequence similarity with pro-interleukin-16 (pro-IL-16). Like pro-IL-16, the encoded protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and is thought to be cleaved by a caspase to produce a secreted peptide containing two PDZ domains. In addition, the PDZK3 gene is upregulated in primary prostate tumors and may be involved in the early stages of prostate tumorigenesis.
