Description:
Acetone is a commonly used material in the manufacture of various chemicals like methyl isobutyl ketone, mesityl oxide, diacetone alcohol, acetic acid (via the ketene process), iodoform, and bromoform. Other products where acetone is utilized in manufacture include rayon, photographic films, and paint and varnish removers. In chemical synthesis, acetone has been utilized in the synthesis and isolation of both organic and inorganic compounds and complexes. These include t-butanesulfinamide, terpenes, thiol-stabilized gold colloids, calixphyrin macrocycles, and trispyrazolylborate platinum compounds. Acetone is also used in HPLC analysis of organic and inorganic species, including gold nanoparticle clusters and plant oils. Acetone has been utilized in protein crystallization.

Description:
ACLP2 (acid phosphatase-like 2), also known as UNQ370 or PRO706, is a 480 amino acid secreted protein that functions to catalyze the H2O-dependent conversion of a phosphate monoester to an alcohol and a phosphate. Expressed as two alternatively spliced isoforms, ACPL2 is encoded by a gene that maps to chromosome 3, which houses over 1,100 genes, including a chemokine receptor (CKR) gene cluster and a variety of human cancer-related gene loci. Key tumor suppressing genes on chromosome 3 include those that encode the apoptosis mediator RASSF1, the cell migration regulator HYAL1 and the angiogenesis suppressor SEMA3B. Marfan Syndrome, porphyria, von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, osteogenesis imperfecta and Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease are a few of the numerous genetic diseases associated with chromosome 3.

Description:
Poly(methylhydrosiloxane) is used in the reduction of esters to alcohols, catalyzed by a combination of titanocene dichloride and either n-BuLi or EtMgBr. It is a safer alternative to triethoxysilane, B22063, for reduction of phosphine oxides to phosphines, catalyzed by Ti(O-i-Pr)4. It is also used in greener amine synthesis by reductive amination as an alternative to borohydrides.

Description:
This gene encodes one of three opioid receptors. The mu opioid receptor is the principal target of endogenous opioid peptides and opioid analgesic agents such a s beta-endorphn and enkephalins. The NM_001008503.1:c.118A>G allele had been associated with opioid and alcohol addiction and variations in pain sensitivity but evidence is conflicting. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2012]
