AMPK is a heterotrimeric complex comprising a catalytic a subunit and regulatory b and g subunits. It protects cells from stresses that cause ATP depletion by switching off ATP-consuming biosynthetic pathways. AMPK is activated by high AMP and low ATP through a mechanism involving allosteric regulation, promotion of phosphorylation by an upstream protein kinase known as AMPK kinase and inhibition of dephosphorylation. Activated AMPK can phosphorylate and regulate in vivo hydroxy-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase and acetyl-CoA carboxylase, which are key regulatory enzymes of sterol synthesis and fatty acid synthesis, respectively. The human AMPKa1 and AMPKa2 genes encode 548 amino acid and 552 amino acid proteins, respectively. Human AMPKb1 encodes a 271 amino acid protein and human AMPKb2 encodes a 272 amino acid protein. The human AMPKg1 gene encodes a 331 amino acid protein. Human AMPKg2 and AMPKg3, which are 569 and 492 amino acid proteins, respectively, contain unique N-terminal domains and may participate directly in the binding of AMP within the AMPK complex.

CD30 ligand (CD30L) is a type-II membrane-associated glycoprotein protein belonging to the TNF superfamily and is expressed primarily on certain B cells, T cells, and monocytes. CD30L binds specifically to CD30 (receptor), which is expressed on activated, but not resting, B and T cells, in lymphomas and various chronically inflamed tissues. CD30L/CD30 interactions initiate a signaling cascade that can ultimately lead to the activation of NF-KappaB. CD30L/CD30 signaling exerts pleiotropic effects on normal cells, including cell death, differentiation, or cell division. Certain diseases, including Hodgkins’s lymphoma, allergic inflammation, diabetes (in NOD mice), and mycobacterial infection can also be affected by CD30L/CD30 signaling. The CD30L gene encodes for a 234 amino acid type II transmembrane protein, which contains a 37 amino acid cytoplasmic sequence, a 25 amino acid transmembrane domain and a 172 amino acid extracellular domain. HGF signals through a transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptor known as MET. HGF is a crucial mitogen for liver regeneration processes, especially after partial hepatectomy and other liver injuries. Human and murine HGF are cross-reactive. Murine HGF is expressed as a linear, polypeptide-precursor glycoprotein containing 696 amino acid residues. Proteolytic processing of this precursor generates the biologically active heterodimeric form of HGF, which consists of two polypeptide chains (α-chain and β-chain) held together by a single disulfide bond resulting in formation of a biologically active heterodimer. Neurexophilin-1 (NXPH1) is a member of Neurexophilin family. NXPH1 consist of 271 amino acis. It contains a 21 amino acid signal peptide, 86 amino acid propeptide, and 164 amino acid mature protein. NXPH1 is expressed in subpopulations of neurons within the cerebral cortex, cerebellum and olfactory bulb that are thought to be inhibitory interneurons. In humans, NXPH2 and NXPH3 are most similar to NXPH1, sharing 84% and 64% aa identity within the mature region, respectively. By contrast, NXPH4 dost not bind a-neurexins. Genetic deletion of NXPH1 or NXPH3 produces no anatomical effect.
