Neurobeachin binds to type II regulatory subunits of protein kinase A and anchors/targets them to the membrane. It may anchor the kinase to cytoskeletal and/or organelle-associated proteins. Neurobeachin, is also a neuron-specific multidomain protein of 327 kDa with a high-affinity binding site for the type II regulatory subunit of protein kinase A. Neurobeachin is peripherally associated with pleomorphic tubulovesicular endomembranes near the trans sides of Golgi stacks and throughout the cell body and cell processes. It is also found in a subpopulation of synapses, where it is concentrated at the postsynaptic plasma membrane.

Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 (hnRNP A1) is a member of the hnRNP A/B family of related RNA binding proteins that bind pre-mRNA and are involved in the processing, metabolism and transport of nuclear pre-mRNA transcripts. hnRNP A1 regulates the alternative splicing of c-Src, c-H-Ras and modifies initiation of translation of the fibroblast growth factor 2 mRNA. hnRNP A1 expression level is elevated in many cancers; knockdown of hnRNP A1 leads to apoptosis in various cancer cells. Although predominantly nuclear, hnRNP A1 is continually transported from the nucleus to the cytoplasm where it disassociates from mRNA and is rapidly re-imported into the nucleus. hnRNP A1 binds to cis-acting repressive sequences (CRS) of HIV-1 to influence HIV-1 production. Contactin 2 is a neuronal cell adhesion molecule (CAM) that influences the formation of axon connections in the developing nervous system. Contactin 2 is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily (IgSF) and contains a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchor, six immunogobulin (Ig)-like and four Fibronectin type III (FNIII)-like domains. Contactin 2 is expressed predominantly during neural development on the cell membrane of axons in nerve fiber tracts in order to guide commissural axons without promoting their growth. Contactin 2 binds with NgCAM in the plane of the same membrane (cis-binding). The Contactin 2 heterophilic (Contactin 2/NgCAM and Contactin 2/NrCAM) binding sites are localized to the first four Ig domains. The Contactin 2 homophilic (Contactin 2/Contactin 2) binding site is localized to the FNIII domain.
