Description:
The inositol polyphosphate 5-phosphatases selectively remove the phosphate from the 5-position of various phosphatidylinositols, which generate second messengers in response to extracellular signals. Synaptojanins are characterized by an N-terminal SAC1-like sequence, a central 5-phosphate domain, and a unique C-terminal sequence and have been shown to use phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate as a substrate. Synaptojanins exist as two isoforms, synaptojanin 1 and 2, which differ in the C-terminal domain, and each isoform has multiple variants produced by alternative splicing. Synaptojanin 1 is expressed as two major forms: the shorter is found in brain while the longer is expressed in peripheral tissues. Eight splice variants of synaptojanin 2 have been detected, including a brain specific isoform. Synaptojanins are thought to participate in the endocytosis of synaptic vesicles and the regulation of the actin cytoskeleton.

Description:
SPTLC2 is a long chain base subunit of serine palmitoyltransferase. Serine palmitoyltransferase, which consists of two different subunits, is the key enzyme in sphingolipid biosynthesis. It catalyzes the pyridoxal-5-prime-phosphate-dependent condensation of L-serine and palmitoyl-CoA to 3-oxosphinganine. Mutations in this gene were identified in patients with hereditary sensory neuropathy type I.This gene encodes a long chain base subunit of serine palmitoyltransferase. Description:
Defects in G6PD are the cause of chronic non-spherocytic hemolytic anemia (CNSHA) . Deficiency of G6PD is associated with hemolytic anemia in two different situations. First, in areas in which malaria has been endemic, G6PD-deficiency alleles have reached high frequencies (1% to 50%) and deficient individuals, though essentially asymptomatic in the steady state, have a high risk of acute hemolytic attacks. Secondly, sporadic cases of G6PD deficiency occur at a very low frequencies, and they usually present a more severe phenotype. Several types of CNSHA are recognized. Class-I variants are associated with severe NSHA; class-II have an activity <10% of normal; class-III have an activity of 10% to 60% of normal; class-IV have near normal activity.

Description:
The FGF family plays a central role during prenatal development and postnatal growth and regeneration of a variety of tissues, by promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation. FGF-23, FGF-21 and FGF-19 constitute an atypical FGF subfamily whose ligands act as circulating hormones and require the participation of a Klotho protein as a co-receptor for their signaling. FGF-23 is a bone-derived hormone that acts in the kidney to regulate phosphate homeostasis and vitamin D metabolism. The signaling receptor for FGF-23, a Klotho-FGFR1 (IIIc) complex, is an essential regulator of the renal sodium phosphate co-transporter and key vitamin D-metabolizing enzymes CYP27B1 and CYP24A1. Recombinant human FGF-23 is a 22.5 kDa globular protein containing 228 amino acid residues.
