Description:
Tyrosine is one of the major targets of protein oxidation. Dityrosine (DT) is known to be formed when tyrosine is damaged by free radicals, such as reactive oxygen species (ROS), metal-catalyzed oxidation, ultraviolet irradiation, and peroxidases. Dityrosine has been found in atherosclerotic lesions, and lipofuscin of pyramidal neurons of aged human brains. Dityrosine is a specific biomarker for protein oxidation. Dityrosine is reported to exist in various tissues and was also recently detected in urine samples. It is expected to be a novel protein oxdation marker, which is non-invasively detectable.

Description:
Protein S100-A8 (also MRP8 and calgranulin A) is a calcium- and zinc-binding protein. It plays a prominent role in the regulation of inflammatory processes and immune response. S100A8 can induce neutrophil chemotaxis and adhesion. Its role as an oxidant scavenger has a protective role in preventing exaggerated tissue damage by scavenging oxidants. It can act as a potent amplifier of inflammation in autoimmunity as well as in cancer development and tumor spread.

Description:
The Flavin containing monooxygenase family consists of five gene products, FMO1-5, that are major enzymatic oxidants involved in the metabolism of various therapeutics. Located in the liver, FMO3 is a hepatic microsomal enzyme that oxygenates soft nucleophiles such as secondary and tertiary amines. Through its N-oxygenase capabilities, FMO3 acts on a variety of xenobiotics to catalyze oxidative digestion. Defects in the FMO3 gene are the primary cause of trimethylaminuria (TMAuria), an inborn error of metabolism associated with a fishy body odor emitting from sweat, urine and breath. Genetic mutations in FMO3 lead to the N-oxidation of amino-trimethylamine derived from food products, thus producing the malodor associated with TMAuria.

Description:
RuBisCO catalyzes two reactions: the carboxylation of D-ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate, the primary event in carbon dioxide fixation, as well as the oxidative fragmentation of the pentose substrate in the photorespiration process. Both reactions occur simultaneously and in competition at the same active site.Sequence similarities: Belongs to the RuBisCO large chain family. Type I subfamily.Post-translational modifications: The disulfide bond which can form between Cys-247 in the large chain dimeric partners within the hexadecamer appears to be associated with oxidative stress and protein turnover (By similarity). The disulfide bonds reported in 1RBO may be the result of oxidation during crystallization.
