Guanidine hydrochloride can be used as the first step in refolding proteins or enzymes into their active form. Urea and dithiothreitol (DTT) may also be necessary. Also used in the isolation of RNA. It is a strong chaotropic agent useful for the denaturation and subsequent refolding of protein, it can solubilize insoluble or denatured proteins such as inclusion bodies and be used for the recovery of periplasmic proteins. Aurora A plays a role in cell cycle regulation during anaphase and/or telophase, in relation to the function of the centrosome/spindle pole region during chromosome segregation. Aurora A plays a key role during tumor development and progression and is overexpressed in many human cancers including breast, ovarian and colorectal. Aurora A is viewed as a potential target for anticancer drug treatment.Aurora B is a mitotic protein kinase that phosphorylates histone H3 (probably on Serine 10), behaves as a chromosomal passenger protein, and may regulate several stages of mitosis such as centrosome separation, chromosome segregation and cytokinesis. It localizes to the inner centromere region from prophase to anaphase. The Aurora kinases, members of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family, associate with microtubules during chromosome movement and segregation. Aurora kinase C may play a part in organizing microtubules in relation to the function of the centrosome/spindle pole during mitosis. This protein is localized to centrosome from anaphase to cytokinesis. Expression is limited to testis in normal cells. Elevated expression levels are seen only in a subset of cancer cells such as HepG2, HuH7 and HeLa cells. Aurora-C expression is maximum at M phase.

Interleukin-2 (IL2) is a secreted immunomodulatory cytokine that is essential in regulation and proliferation of T and B lymphocytes, and other activities crucial to regulation of the immune response. The receptor of this cytokine (the IL-2R receptor) is a heterotrimeric protein complex whose gamma chain is also shared by interleukin 4 (IL4) and interleukin 7 (IL7). The expression of this gene in mature thymocytes is monoallelic, which represents an unusual regulatory mode for controlling the precise expression of a single gene. The targeted disruption of a similar gene in mice leads to ulcerative colitis like disease, which suggests an essential role of this gene in the immune response to antigenic stimuli. IL2 has been shown to have antitumor effects in some studies. This is probably mediated by cytotoxic effector cells. Produced by T-cells in response to antigenic or mitogenic stimulation, this protein can stimulate B-cells, monocytes, lymphokine-activated killer cells, natural killer cells, and glioma cells. Recombinant IL-2 produced in E. coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 134 amino acids and having a molecular mass of 15,517 Daltons. Recombinant human IL-2 has a Ser substitute for Cysteine at position 126.
