Description:
Cytotoxic against tumor cell lines. Induces necrosis and apoptosis in cancer cells. Shows anti-platelet aggregation activity possibly by inhibition of cyclooxgenase activity and a decrease in thromboxane A2 formation. Shows significant anxiolytic and antidepressant activities. Promotes adipogenesis of 3T3-L1 cells. Induces in vivo and in vitro mutagenicity in eukaryotic models. Selectively kills cancer cells by targeting the stress response to ROS. Shows in vitro schistosomicidal activity.

Description:
Potent anti-cancer compound. Induces apoptosis in normal and tumor cell lines. DNA Topoisomerase II activity inhibitor. Increases Topo II-mediated DNA breakage primarily by inhibiting the ability of the enzyme to religate cleaved nucleic acid molecules. Does not lead to immediate block of DNS synthesis, induces a progressive inhibition of DNA replication. p53 activator. Blocks the cell cycle between the end of the S phase and the early G2 phase. Oncoprotein Mdm2 synthesis inhibitor. Apoptosis inducer through the cytochrome c/Apaf-1/caspase-9 pathway and the Fas-mediated death signaling pathway. Cell cycle checkpoint activator. Affects gene expression at different levels (chromatin remodeling, transcription and alternative splicing). Chemotherapeutic compound used in cancers. Used in conditioning regimen prior to a bone marrow or blood stem cell transplantation. Highly effective in mobilizing stem cells

Description:
Interferon-alpha (IFN-α) is a type I interferon, produced by virus-infected cells, and is released as a soluble factor to initiate antiviral responses (Isaacs and Lindenmann). IFN-α2 is the most potent IFN-α used in fundamental research and in most clinical applications. The best-known IFN-α2 subvariants, 2A and 2B, differ by only one or two amino acids at positions 23 and/or 34 of the mature protein (von Gabain <i>et al.</i>). Type I IFNs exert potent antitumor activity by increasing the cytotoxic activity of NK and T cells, as well as by inhibiting the proliferation of cancer cells (Paul <i>et al.</i>). Additionally, it has been shown that proinflammatory IFN-α modulates the function of B cells in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (Chang <i>et al.</i>), and pegylated forms of IFN-alpha 2A and 2B have implications in the treatment of hepatitis C (Foster <i>et al.</i>).

Description:
The leucine-rich (LRR) repeat is a 20-30 amino acid motif that forms a hydrophobic å/∫ horseshoe fold, allowing it to accommodate several leucine residues within a tightly packed core. All LRR repeats contain a variable segment and a highly conserved segment, the latter of which accounts for 11 or 12 residues of the entire LRR motif. The primary function of these motifs is to provide a versatile structural framework to mediate the formation of protein-protein interactions. LRRs are present in a variety of proteins with diverse structure and function, including innate immunity and nervous system development. Several human diseases are associated with mutations in genes encoding LRR-containing proteins. LRRC23 (leucine-rich repeat-containing protein 23), also known as leucine-rich protein B7, is a 343 amino acid protein that contains eight LRR (leucine-rich) repeasts and one LRRCT domain. LRRC23 exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms and is encoded by a gene mapping to chromosome 12.
