Description:
Scavenger receptor class B member 1 (SCARB1), also known as SR-BI, is part of the scavenger receptor superfamily, which is composed of many members with diverse structures, expression patterns, and functions. SCARB1 is a multi-ligand cell-surface receptor that mediates the selective uptake of lipid from HDL cholesterol into cells and is expressed in steroidogenic tissues in adult animals. Other ligands of SCARB1 include native, acetylated, or oxidized LDL and anionic phospholipids. SCARB1-deficient mice have elevated HDL levels and increased susceptibility to atherosclerosis on fat feeding, indicating its importance in the regulation of cholesterol homeostasis. Along with CLDN1, LDL-R, and the tetraspanin superfamily member CD81, SCARB1 has been reported to be an entry factor for the Hepatitis C virus. At least two isoforms of SCARB1 are known to exist.

Adipogen
Description:
NADPH-diaphorase substrate that competitively inhibits NOS (nitric oxide synthase). Well-known scavenger of superoxide anions. Dye that is used for detection of alkaline phosphatase in combination with 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indoxyl phosphate (BCIP). This substrate system produces an insoluble NBT diformazan end product that is blue in color and can be observed visually. When used with BCIP, it is suitable for detection of alkaline phosphatase in western blots, for immunohistological staining procedures and for colorimetric indication of bacterial infection in blood samples. Used as a redox indicator for enzymatic reactions including dehydrogenases, threonine deaminase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, phosphofructokinase on polyacrylamide gels, oxidases on polyacrylamide gels and pentose shunt dehydrogenses. The NBT/BCIP reaction is also used for colorimetric/spectrophotometric activity assays of oxidoreductases. One application is in activity stains in gel electrophoresis, such as with the mitochondrial electron transport chain complexes.

Description:
Anti-cancer compound. Interferes with multiple cell signaling pathways, including cell cycle (cyclin D1 and cyclin E), apoptosis (activation of caspases and down-regulation of anti-apoptotic gene products), proliferation (HER-2, EGFR and AP-1), survival (PI3K/AKT pathway), invasion (MMP-9 and adhesion molecules), angiogenesis (VEGF), metastasis (CXCR-4) and inflammation (NF-kappaB, TNF, IL-6, IL-1, COX-2 and 5-LOX). Anti-angiogenic. Anti-metastatic. Anti-invasive. Chemopreventive. Sonic hedgehog (Shh) signaling pathway modulator. Downregulates Shh and Gli1. Antioxidant. Anti-inflammatory. Potent inhibitor of NF-kappaB, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), lipooxygenase (LOX), and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS; NOSII). Downregulates the expression of various proinflammatory cytokines including TNF, IL-1, IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, IL-12 and chemokines. Potent immunomodulator. Modulates several key transcription factors. Down-regulate transcription factors NF-kappaB, AP-1 and Egr-1. Down-regulates the expression of COX-2, LOX, NOS, MMP-9, uPA, TNF, chemokines, cell surface adhesion molecules and cyclin D1. Down-regulate growth factor receptors (such as EGFR and HER2) and inhibits the activity of c-Jun N-terminal kinase, protein tyrosine kinases and protein serine/threonine kinases. Neuroprotective. Anti-amyloid activity. Cardioprotective. p300/CBP-HAT inhibitor. Regulates lipid metabolism and downregulates obesity. Activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPARgamma) and Nrf2 cell-signaling pathways. Antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal. Epigenetic agent. Interacts with histone deacetylases (HDACs), histone acetyltransferases (HATs), DNA methyltransferase I and microRNAs. Inducer of autophagy in lung adenocarcinoma cells.

Description:
DL-Dithiothreitol is also known as Clelands reagent; Protective agent for sulfhydryl groups (-SH). Quantitatively reduces disulfides (-S-S- to -SH). In this reaction the DTT is oxidized to the cyclic disulfide which ensures the reduction of other disulfides in solution. Disulfide reduction occurs quickly at pH 8.
Dithiothreitol is useful for stabilizing sulfhydryl containing enzymes. Effective in sample buffers for reducing protein disulfide bonds prior to SDS-PAGE. DTT can also be used for reducing the disulfide bridge of the cross-linker N,N'-bis(acryloyl)cystamine to break apart the matrix of a polyacrylamide gel. DTT is less pungent and is less toxic than 2-mercaptoethanol. Useful for stabilizing sulfhydryl-containing enzymes.
