Description:
Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) is an IFN-γ inducible gene. It catalyzes the degradation of the essential amino acid L-tryptophan to N-formylkynurenine. IDO has been implicated to protect against intracellular and extracellular pathogens. . IDO1 is also known as Indolamine 2,3-dioxygenase, Indole 2,3-dioxygenase, and Indoleamine-pyrrole 2,3-dioxygenase. IDO is a ubiquitously expressed cytoplasmic protein with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 45 kDa. Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) is one the best known IFN-γ inducible genes. The product of IDO gene catalyzes the degradation of the essential amino acid L-tryptophan to N-formylkynurenine. IDO has been implicated to protect against intracellular and extracellular pathogens. It also has been shown to maintain the special immune suppressive status of immune-privileged sites such as the brain, eyes, kidney, and placenta.

The receptor for IL-21 (IL-21R) also termed NILR for novel interleukin receptor) is a member of the class I cytokine receptor family. Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) is a monoamine found in the central nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, and blood with broad physiological functions as a neurotransmitter, in gastric motility, hemostasis, and cardiovascular integrity. Seven subclasses (5-HT 1-7) of serotonin receptors have been identified, a majority of which are members of the seven transmembrane domain-containing G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) family, and are the target of several anti-depressant drugs.
