Description:
Omentin (Intelectin-1) is highly expressed in omental adipose tissue, small intestine and various other tissues. Omentin has no effect on basal glucose uptake but enhances insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in adipocytes. It increases AKT phosphorylation in the absence and presence of insulin. It was suggested to play a role in the defense system against microorganisms by recognizing carbohydrate chains of pathogens and bacterial components containing galactofuranosyl residues.

Description:
Glucocorticoid induced TNF receptor family related gene (GITR; AITR) is a type 1 228 amino acid transmembrane protein that has been designated TNFRSF18. GITR is expressed mainly by CD4+ CD25+ T lymphocytes. Its engagement by antibodies or its ligand (GITRL) induces a costimulatory signal which can break T cell suppression. GITR has been implicated as a regulatory mechanism in anti-parasitic immune resposes, and is involved with macrophages activation in atherosclerotic plaque formation.

Description:
Lymphocyte activation gene 3 (LAG-3; CD223) plays an important role in negatively regulating T cell proliferation, function and homeostasis. It is required for maximal natural and induced regulatory T cell (Treg) function. LAG-3 is closely related to the T cell co-receptor CD4 and binds to MHC class II molecules but with a significantly higher affinity than CD4.

Description:
Wnts are lipid-modified morphogens that control many processes during development, stem cell maintenance and homeostasis and their aberrant regulation has been linked to diseases in man including diabetes, neurodegeneration and cancer. Three distinct receptor families mediate Wnt signaling: Fzs, the single-pass LRP5/6 co-receptors and the atypical tyrosine kinase receptors Ror2 and Ryk. Frizzled proteins can activate canonical Wnt/beta-catenin signaling as well as non-canonical pathways (Wnt/Ca2+ pathways and planar cell polarity). The cysteine-rich domain (CRD) of the frizzled receptors situated on the extracellular part of the receptor is sufficient to bind the Wnt ligands.

Description:
A diffusible signal factor (DSF) in extracellular microbial and fungal communication systems. In a DSF bioassay, the minimum concentration of cis-Delta2-11-methyl-dodecenoic acid required for induction of a DSF biosensor was about 0.5 µM, which is 200-fold less than that of the conformational isomer (trans-Delta2-11-methyl-dodecenoic acid) and 20,000-fold lower than that of the corresponding saturated fatty acid (11-methyl-dodecanoic acid).

Microfibril-associated protein 4 (MFAP4) was initially identified as a gene commonly deleted in the contiguous Smith-Magenis syndrome (SMS) gene. MFAP4 was identified as growth factor to support expansion of hematopoietic stem cells in culture. It is involved in calcium-dependent cell adhesion and intercellular interactions.

Description:
N-Heptanoyl-L-homoserine lactone (C7-HSL) is a small diffusible signaling molecule involved in quorum sensing, thereby controlling gene expression and affecting cellular metabolism. The diverse applications of this molecule include regulation of virulence, infection prevention and septicemia in fish.

Description:
CD274 (B7-H1; PD-L1; Programmed Death Ligand) is a member of the B7 family and is expressed on a variety of tissues including lymphoid cells. It plays an important role in regulation of T cell activation and is involved in progression of cancer, arthritis and HIV infection. CD274 binding to its receptor CD279 (PD-1) on activated T cells can decrease proliferation. Conversely, ligation of CD279 on primed T cells can stimulate IL-10 production. High levels of CD274 present in renal cell carcinoma is associated with poor prognosis. Tumor expressed CD274 can increase apoptosis of tumor specific T cells resulting in better tumor cell survival.

Description:
Angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) and Angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) are closely related secreted ligands which bind with similar affinity to Tie-2. Tie-2 and angiopoietins have been shown to play critical roles in embryogenic angiogenesis and in maintaining the integrity of the adult vasculature. Ang-1 activates Tie-2 signaling on endothelial cells to promote chemotaxis, cell survival, cell sprouting, vessel growth and stabilization. Ang-2 has been identified as a secreted protein ligand of Tie-2 and has alternatively been reported to be an antagonist for Ang-1 induced Tie-2 signaling as well as an agonist for Tie-2 signaling, depending on the cell context. anti-Angiopoietin-2 (human), mAb (rec.) (blocking) (Angy-1-4) (preservative free) is an antibody developed by antibody phage display technology using a human naive antibody gene library. These libraries consist of scFv (single chain fragment variable) composed of VH (variable domain of the human immunoglobulin heavy chain) and VL (variable domain of the human immunoglobulin light chain) connected by a polypeptide linker. The antibody fragments are displayed on the surface of filamentous bacteriophage (M13). This scFv was selected by affinity selection on antigen in a process termed panning. Multiple rounds of panning are performed to enrich for antigen-specific scFv-phage. Monoclonal antibodies are subsequently identified by screening after each round of selection. The selected monoclonal scFv is cloned into an appropriate vector containing a Fc portion of interest and then produced in mammalian cells to generate an IgG like scFv-Fc fusion protein.
