Description:   Cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (CIRP) is from the family of cold shock proteins that plays a protective role in the genotoxic and cold stress response. CIRBP functions as an RNA chaperone to facilitate translation and to stabilize transcripts of genes involved in cell survival. CIRP (human) is a 172-aa nuclear protein consisting of one amino-terminal consensus sequence RNA-binding domain and one carboxyl-terminal glycine-rich domain. When overexpressed, CIRP promotes assembly of stress granules (SGs). CIRP is constitutively expressed at low levels in various tissues becoming up-regulated during mild hypothermia as well as exposure to UV irradiation and hypoxia. CIRP is also found extracellularly, where it acts as a proinflammatory mediator causing deleterious effects during hemorrhagic and septic shock.

Description:   PARP-1 (ARTD1) is involved in the base excision repair (BER) pathway, by catalyzing the poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation of a limited number of acceptor proteins involved in chromatin architecture and in DNA metabolism. This modification follows DNA damages and appears as an obligatory step in a detection/signaling pathway leading to the reparation of DNA strand breaks. PARP-1 positively regulates the transcription of MTUS1 and negatively regulates the transcription of MTUS2/TIP150. It forms a complex with EEF1A1 and TXK that acts as a T-helper 1 (Th1) cell-specific transcription factor and binds the promoter of IFN-gamma to directly regulate its transcription, and is thus involved importantly in Th1 cytokine production.

Description:   A-674563 is a potent, orally available Akt1 inhibitor with an IC(50) of 11nM. It also displays activity against PKA and CDK2 with IC(50) values of 16 and 46nM respectively.

Description:   Human CD56 is an adhesion molecule from the Ig superfamily which is restricted to NK cells and a subset of T cells in the immune system. It is believed that NK cells form a first line of defense against tumor cells and cells infected with bacteria and viruses.

Description:   The inducible costimulator CD278 (ICOS; T cell activation molecule H4) is similar to human CD28 (24% homology) and plays an analogous role in the T cell activation process. Each secondary signal from CD278 results in a discrete cytokine secretion profile displayed by the activated T cell. Both activation processes are effectively down regulated by CD152 (CTLA-4) engagement.

Description:   Human CD44 molecules appear to serve as lymphocyte adhesion molecules with numerous functions in extracellular matrix binding, cell migration, hemopoisis and lymphocyte homing.

Description:   The human CD1 genetic locus consists of five closely related genes. Three of the gene products (CD1a, CD1b and CD1c) have been officially clustered using antibodies and are expressed on cortical thymocytes, a subset of B cells, and on most professional antigen presenting cells. CD1 molecules have a specialized lipid antigen-presenting function.

Description:   Human CD95 (APO-1; Fas) is a type I cell surface glycoprotein that is strongly upregulated on activated T cells, B cells, NK cells and thymocytes. CD95 plays an important role in programmed cell death or apoptosis. Apoptosis appears to be a mechanism for regulating the immune response.

Description:   CD134 (OX40) is a T cell activation antigen structurally belonging to a lymphocyte-specific subgroup of the nerve growth factor and tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, which also includes the T cell antigen CD27, B cell antigen CD40, FAS antigen and the T cell activation antigen 4-1BB. The human CD134 protein is expressed only on activated CD4+ T blasts, and its ligand has been identified as gp34. Interactions between CD134 and its ligand in vivo are necessary for the differentiation of activated B cells into highly immunoglobulin-producing cells, however not involved in other pathways of antigen-driven differentiation of B cells such as development of memory cells in the germinal centers. In addition, the CD134 and gp34 system directly mediate adhesion of activated T cells to vascular endothelial cells, and contribute to growth stimulation of the virus-infected T cells.

Description:   Tribbles homolog 3 (TRB-3) is a pseudokinase, shown to act as a potent negative regulator of PPAR?, a master regulator of adipocyte differentiation, and to control adipogenesis. It disrupts insulin signaling by binding directly to Akt kinases and blocking their activation. It interacts also with the NF-kappaB transactivator p65 RELA. May play a role in programmed neuronal cell death but does not appear to affect non-neuronal cells.

Description:   Human CD69 is expressed by platelets and mature thymocytes and appears rapidly after activation on T cells, B cells and NK cells. This pattern of cellular CD69 expression has suggested a lymphocyte activation role. Functional studies with antibodies to CD69 also support an activation role for CD69.

Description:   Human CD122 (IL-2 Rbeta) associates with CD25 (IL-2Ralpha) to form a high affinity receptor for IL-2 and is expressed on activated T cells, B cells and monocytes. The cytoplasmic domain of CD122 is involved with signal transduction.

Description:   Expression of human CD25 (the alpha subunit of the IL-2 receptor complex) is dramatically upregulated on activated T cells, B cells, NK cells and macrophages. Antibodies to CD25 are being studied for potential use as an immunodirected therapy to selectively attack (kill) CD25 expressing cells.
