Description:
Physical Appearance: White Powder pKa: < 2, 2.7, 8.8, and 9.5 (Lit.) Solubility: Soluble in alkaline solutions (1 g in 10 mL 1 N NaOH + 50 mL water-clear, colorless solution). Typical Working Concentration: as a metalloprotease inhibitor (effective concentration is typically 1 to 10 µM) Ethylene Glycol-bis-(beta-aminoethylether)-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic Acid is a chelating agent. It is an inhibitor of alkaline phosphatase activity which is useful in ELISA reactions. Ethylene Glycol-bis-(beta-aminoethylether)-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic Acid is a chelating agent for determination of calcium in the presence of magnesium; it can also detect cadmium in the presence of zinc. It is also useful for the removal of heavy metal ions in biological systems. It is shown to activate Ca2+- stimulated ATPase in rat liver plasma membranes and induce apoptosis in PC12 cells. It also inhibits the zinc-dependent endopeptidases, matrix metalloproteinases.
Description:
A potent and selective cell permeable calpain inhibitor. Inhibits oxidative damage-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells and capsaicin-induced apoptosis in dorsal root ganglion neurons. It protects against anoxia in rat optic nerves and reduces neuronal damage in an animal model of global cerebral ischemia(50 mg/kg). In isolated hippocampal pyramidal neurons, it inhibits Ca²⁺-induced suppression of neurite outgrowth (complete inhibition at 20 µM). Calpain I Ki = 8 nM; Cathepsin B Ki = 24 nM in isolated enzyme assays. IC50 = 0.3 µM in intact cell assay.
Description:
Thioglycolic acid protects tryptophan in amino acid analysis, and also mediates formation of ATP from ADP. It lowers the oxidation-reduction potential and neutralises mercurial preservatives. An inhibitor of fatty acid oxidation. An agent that prevents the metabolism of fatty acids and stimulates feeding. The sodium salt form is typically used in production of bacteriological culture media. The free acid is used as a reagent for the sensitive detection of iron (a blue color appears in the presence of ferric iron, and when an alkali hydroxide is added to a solution containing ferrous salts and thioglycolic acid, a yellow precipitate forms), molybdenum, silver and tin; used for the extraction and spectrophotometric determination of various transition metals such as lead, tungsten, molybdenum and titanium.
Description:
Metalloprotease that acts as a negative regulator of the Wnt signaling pathway by mediating the cleavage of the 8 N-terminal residues of a subset of Wnt proteins. Following cleavage, Wnt proteins become oxidized and form large disulfide-bond oligomers, leading to their inactivation. Able to cleave WNT3A, WNT5, but not WNT11. Required for head formation. [COFACTOR] Divalent metal cations. Manganese or cobalt.
