Description:
Verapamil hydrochloride is an alpha-adrenergic receptor (alpha-AR) antagonist and calcium channel protein inhibitor that blocks the L-type Ca2+ channels in smooth and cardiac muscle cells. Verapamil is an antiarrhythmic agent and vasodilator known to reduce the renal clearance of digoxin and induce apoptosis in primary and metastatic colon adenocarcinoma human cell lines in vitro. It has been observed that verapamil can induce currents by itself, presumably by acting on the potassium and chloride leakage. Verapamil has also been used as an inhibitor of drug efflux pump proteins such as Mdr (P-glycoprotein). Verapamil is a substrate of CYP3A4 and CYP2C6. It is also used in fluorescent cell sorting for DNA content, as it blocks efflux of a variety of DNA-binding fluorophores such as Hoechst 33342. Recent research has shown verapamil to be an effective treatment for diabetes in animal models. Verapamil helps treat diabetes by limiting TXNIP expression.

Interleukin-22 (IL-22), also known as IL-10 related T cell-derived-inducible factor (ILTIF) was initially identified as a gene induced by IL-9 in mouse T cells and mast cells. IL-22 has been shown to activate STAT1 and STAT3 in several hepatoma cell lines and upregulate the production of acute phase proteins. IL-22 is produced by normal T cells upon anti-CD3 stimulation in humans. Mouse IL-22 expression is also induced in various organs upon lipopolysaccharide injection, suggesting that IL-22 may be involved in inflammatory responses. The functional IL-22 receptor complex consists of two receptor subunits, IL-22R(CRF29) and IL-10Rbeta(CRF24), belonging to the class II cytokine receptor family.

Description:
N-Butyryl-DL-homoserine lactone is a small diffusible signaling molecule and is a member of N-acyl-homoserine lactone family. N-acylhomoserine lactones (AHL) are involved in quorum sensing, controlling gene expression, and cellular metabolism. The diverse applications of this kind of molecule include regulation of virulence in general, infection prevention, and formation of biofilms.

Description:
Human CD4 is a cell surface glycoprotein of 55kDa expressed on most thymocytes, on about two thirds of peripheral T cells and on some monocyte macrophage lineage cells. CD4 interacts with MHC Class II molecules in an accessory role during foreign antigen recognition by T cells. The extracellular portion of CD4 is an array of four Ig-like domains. The N-terminal region of CD4 is a receptor for the HIV-1 viral protein gp120.

Description:
Annexin V is an anticoagulant protein that acts as an indirect inhibitor of the thromboplastin-specific complex, which is involved in the blood coagulation cascade. Annexin V competes for phosphatidylserine binding sites (e.g. platelets) with prothrombin or coagulation factors and inhibis the activity of phospholipase A1. Antibodies directed against annexin V are found in patients with a disease called the antiphospholipid syndrome(APS), a thrombophilic disease associated with autoantibodies against phospholipid compounds. Annexin V is used as a probe in the "annexin V affinity assay" to detect cells that have expressed phosphatidylserine on the cell surface, a feature found in apoptosis and other forms of cell death.

Description:
Antidiabetic agent. Potent and selective partial agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARgamma), a nuclear receptor regulating lipid and glucose metabolism. Has nanomolar binding affinity to PPARgamma and micromolar binding to the isotypes PPARalpha and PPARbeta/delta. Glucose-lowering agent. Improves insulin sensitivity, glucose tolerance and blood lipid variables without increase of fat storage or hepatoxicity. Shows potent PPARgamma-dependent anti-inflammatory activity. Potent NF-kappaB activation inhibitor by the suppression of IkappaBalpha degradation, p65 nuclear translocation and DNA-binding activity. Antimicrobial agent.
