Description:
CD24, also known as heat stable antigen, is a phosphatidylinositol-linked cell surface glycoprotein that is expressed at all stages of B cell development and on most thymocytes. The absence of expression from mature T cells is closely associated with their maturation from CD4+CD8+CD24+ thymocytes to either CD4+CD8-CD24- or CD4-CD8+CD24- T cells. CD24 is also present on mouse granulocytes, monocytes, Langerhans cells and erythrocytes. Its ligand is P-selectin (CD62P). CD24 may play a role in regulation of B cell proliferation and differentiation, and it has been proposed that heat stable antigen promotes homotypic adhesion between B lymphocytes.

Description:
Ly-6A/E, also known as Sca-1, is a member of the Ly-6 multigene family of type V glycophosphatidylinositol-anchored cell surface proteins. It is expressed on multipotent hematopoietic stem cells in bone marrow of mice with both the Ly-6.1 and Ly-6.2 allotypes. In the periphery, Ly-6A/E exhibits a pattern of expression which is based on differences between the two allotypes. Ly-6.1 strains (e.g., A, BALB/c, CBA, C3H/He, DBA/1, NZB) have few Ly-6A/E+ resting peripheral lymphocytes whereas Ly-6.2 strains (e.g., AKR, C57BL, C57BR, C57L, DBA/2, PL, SJL, SWR, 129) have relatively high numbers of Ly-6A/E+ lymphocytes. The expression of Ly-6A/E is dramatically upregulated in all strains upon cellular activation. Studies with the monoclonal antibody D7 suggest that Ly-6A/E may be involved in B and T lymphocyte responses and it appears that the antigen may be required for T-cell receptor-mediated T-cell activation.

Description:
CD40 is a type I cell surface protein belonging to the tumor necrosis factor superfamily of cell surface receptors. In mice it is expressed on B lineage cells, follicular dendritic cells, thymic epithelium, and interdigitating cells in the T-cell zone of secondary lymphoid organs. CD40 first becomes detectable on a subset of small pre-B II cells in bone marrow with the levels of CD40 expression increasing thereafter during B cell maturation. Immature B cells (IgM+IgDloB220lo) express intermediate levels of CD40, whereas mature B cells (IgM+IgDhiB220hi) express high levels. CD40 has a central role in B cell growth and differentiation, and signaling through CD40 in combination with IL-4 reportedly induces immunoglobulin isotype switching and secretion of IgE. The agonistic 1C10 antibody closely resembles gp39/CD40 ligand in its ability to stimulate proliferation of small, resting B lymphocytes in the absence of other cofactors.

CD54, a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell surface receptors and also known as Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-1 (ICAM-1), is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that mediates important cell/cell interactions. CD54 is expressed on endothelial cells, dendritic cells, keratinocytes, and lymphocytes. Its expression is upregulated by inflammatory mediators such as IFN γ, IL-1, TNF-α, lipopolysaccharide, and phorbol esters. Endothelial CD54 contributes to the extravasation of leukocytes from blood vessels, particularly in areas of inflammation. CD54 on antigen-presenting cells contributes to antigen-specific T-cell activation, presumably by enhancing interactions between T cell and antigen-presenting cells. These adhesion reactions are mediated via the binding of CD54 to its major ligands, LFA-1 and Mac-1.

The monoclonal antibody RDR34 reacts with RLA-DR-transfected cells but not with RLA-DQ-transfected cells. In normal adult rabbits, the antibody reacts with 50-60% of peripheral blood leukocytes and splenocytes.
